10 Things You Don't Know About Me | Life of Dahlia

10 Things You Don’t Know About Me | Life Of Dahlia

Hey, guys, we are getting a bit personal today, I’m going to share with you 10 things you may not know about me. I feel like I’m turning over a new leaf with my blog I want to share myself and hopefully put a little bit of my personality into my writing, I’ve felt like I haven’t really done that much in the past, I was always more straight to the point but I feel like that can be a bit boring for people to read.

I guess I want to keep that but add some more of me in there because I know long posts can be hard to read. If you are anything like me you and have a short attention span, long posts can be overwhelming.

Some Interesting Facts About Me:

1. I love learning, no seriously I am always looking to learn new things. I have been studying on and off for many years, I’m drawn to creative courses and I have studied at least seven or so different courses over the years in art, photography, graphic design and now makeup. I’m an artist at heart so I’m always looking to learn and explore different things.

2. I love photography, I don’t know but you may have guessed that already. I’ve been fascinated with photography since I was young, I would play with my mum’s old film camera and take pictures of all different kinds of things. I studied darkroom photography which was really interesting to learn but these days I tend to stick with my digital camera, it’s easier and cheaper in the long run.

3. I’ve always been fascinated with the past and by that, I mean different times and what things were in fashion at the time. I think that’s why I love collecting things that remind me of those times, like vintage clothing or jewellery, cameras or tea sets.

4. I take self-portraits, well actually I haven’t done it in a while but I do love the process I’m hoping to get back into it soon. By self-portrait, I don’t mean a selfie of my makeup it’s much deeper than that, it’s about creating a story through photography.

5. I’m a Sci-Fi Buff, I’ll blame my mum for that it’s her fault I’m addicted to sci-fi and fantasy shows. It all started with Stargate: SG1 and went from there.

6. I love fantasy stories and am inspired by them, growing up my mum would read us stories like Harry Potter and we would watch movies Like The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland or Labyrinth, which are my all-time favourites. Ever since I’ve just found lots of inspiration in stories and have wanted to create them in my own way.

7. Listening to music is one of my favourite things, I will often listen to my current favourite band or album (which currently is Alter Bridge) before I go to bed it helps me relax and do a bit of mindfulness to calm my brain before going to sleep.

8. I love nature, though I definitely need to get out and enjoy it more, one of my favourite things to do is take photos of flowers there are so many and I just think they are beautiful.

9. I have an odd personality I decorate my space with lighter colours and fantasy inspired objects, but I listen to rock music and dress in band t-shirts and dark colours.

10. The last thing you may not know about me is that I have a few pets, I have 1 dog his names Olli, his like my child and I have two fish tanks 1 big and 1 small with approx 20 fish overall, I want to get some more though there is still plenty of room in my big one. I was addicted to the show Tanked and it inspired me to buy a fish tank, its hard work mainly the cleaning and water change but I love feeding them every morning and watching them play together.

There you go that’s 10 things you may not know about me, I hope you enjoyed reading it and I would love to know if we have anything in common.

Secret Wood Collection | Life Of Dahlia

Secret Wood Collection | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Everyone, Today I’m really excited to share with you my Secret Wood collection. I discovered this company last year after I saw one of their ads pop up in my Instagram feed and it was love at first sight.

About Secret Wood

Let me tell you a little bit about who Secret Wood is and why I love them, the artisan jewellery makers at Secret Wood have been making their unique jewellery which is made from wood and resin since 2015. They started with rings and have since expanded their range to include pendants, night lights and bracelets.

They are based in Vancouver, Canada and take inspiration from Canada’s beautiful and whimsical landscapes. All their pieces are made with a variety of different types of wood and resin as well as decorative elements such as flowers and gold leaf.

Why I Fell In Love With Secret Wood

I feel in love with their designs because I have always admired the landscapes and scenery of Canada, It’s a place I have dreamed of visiting for a long time. This is why I decided to purchase from them, I felt like I had a little bit of Canada in a bubble that I could wear around my neck.

Why I Decided To Make A Purchase

I decided to purchase one of their pendants because I don’t really wear rings, I felt like a necklace would be best suited for me. How the pendants work is that you purchase a sterling silver pendant necklace (they are shaped like a turtle how cute is that) and then you can purchase different shells to interchange on your necklace.

I have to admit trying to decide which ones to get is hard because they are all stunning. With my first purchase, I decided on getting the necklace and one shell, which was the ‘Eternal Supernova(deluxe) design. In my second purchase, I decided on ‘Azure Falls’ (deluxe) and ‘Aurora Borealis'(deluxe).

How Much are Secret Wood’s Pendants

Secret Wood offers a variety of designs to choose from in both their classic and deluxe shells, they range from $55-$75 US Dollars with the necklace itself being $90.

I felt that the prices are quite reasonable for the incredible designs they have to offer. I was fortunate enough to get mine with a couple of their big sales which made it nice as an international customer.

How Long Does It Take

Each design can take weeks to finish so I know that my money is going to an artist and that’s what I love. I’m not a huge jewellery wearer or purchase of, most mainstream jewellery from big jewellery companies just don’t do anything for me so I have to be pretty impressed by something to actually want to spend a bit on it.

While the pendant has some weight to it I find it really comfortable to wear and I love that I can interchange my shell when I want to. When I’m not wearing them I keep them in a little wooden box that I got sent with my necklace, it keeps them all secure with magnets which is fantastic.

Have you tried Secret Wood? What are you favourite pieces?

For more information on Secret Wood and prices, you can find it via their website.

My Top 5 Favourite Marvel Movies | Life of Dahlia

My Top 5 Favourite Marvel Movies | Life Of Dahlia

Hey guys, I love doing fun posts where I share some of my favourite tv shows and movies with you, this one is all about my favourite Marvel Movies. Honestly its so hard for me to choose favourites because I love so many of them but I’ve managed to compile a list of My Top 5 Favourite Marvel Movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy

I love this movie so much, the story is really awesome but I feel like the soundtrack makes this movie so much better. I love the music in these movies they are just such awesome collections of so many great songs.

‘Goot’ and ‘Rocket’ have to be my favourite characters in this movie, but all the characters are great and there are so many funny moments in this movie that make me love them all.

Thor: Ragnarok

The ‘Thor’ movies have to be some of my favourites from the ‘Avengers’ universe, Both ‘Thor’ and ‘Loki’ have to be my favourites I love them both and I love their stories. This movie though has to be my favourite, I love that it has more comedy to it and I love the guardians of the galaxy vibes it has.

It’s also nice to see ‘Bruce Banner’ aka ‘The Hulk’ in this movie, I love that we got to know The Hulk better I feel like we haven’t really seen to much other than him smashing things in a long time. I feel like we have seen ‘Bruce Banner’s’ story but not ‘the Hulks’, I know they are the same person but they are two different personalities.

Captain America – The Winter Soldier

When I first saw ‘Captain America’ I actually didn’t think that I would like it but I was pleasantly surprised that I actually really enjoy his story. In the ‘Winter Soldier’, we get to see Bucky’s return as the ‘Winter Soldier’ which I’m sure shocked a lot of people like me. I haven’t read any of the comic books it was never my thing but I love superhero movies.

It was actually hard to choose between this one and ‘Civil War’, I love that we get to see Bucky’s story in these, where he has been, what happened to him. I think he is an interesting character and adds some interesting elements to the stories.

Avengers – Age of Ultron

As much as I love Loki, I actually think ‘Age of Ultron’ is my favourite Avengers movie, I have seen part 1 of ‘Infinity War’ and I liked most of it so far but I feel like I can’t comment on it yet as I’ve only seen it once. ‘Age of Ultron’ has a really interesting storyline an I love that they had James Spader do the voice of ‘Ultron’ I think his voice makes this character even more menacing and scary.

I feel like this was the movie where I started to dislike ‘Tony Stark’ more like Stan Lee says he created a character people should hate and try to make them love him. I really liked this character but as his story goes on I feel like he just annoys me more, but I do think the movies would be very boring if he wasn’t there to shake things up a little.

X-men – Day of Futures Past

I couldn’t not include an ‘X-men’ movie, I like these movies but there are only a couple that I really love, including ‘Days of Futures Past’. I love that this movie collides past with future and that we get to see both James McAvoy & Patrick Stewart as ‘Professor Charles Xavier/ Professor X’.

This movie has so many cool characters in it, including ‘Mystique’, ‘Magneto’, ‘Wolverine’ just to name a few but also ‘Trask’ who is played by Peter Dinklage. I love seeing him in movies and tv shows he just plays some really interest and sometimes funny characters.

What are your favourite Marvel Movies? Are you Team Avengers or Team X-men? let me know in the comments..

My Favourite Beauty Instagram Accounts To Follow | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Beauty Lovers, Instagram has to be one of my favourite social media platforms. I find so many inspiring artists on Instagram, so I thought It would fun to share a few of my favourite beauty accounts that I love following.

1. Kimberley Margarita/Colour Creep

Kimberley Margarita has to be one of my favourite makeup artists that I follow, her level of creativity is mind-blowing. She is always posting the most inspiring fantasy type looks. There are many amazing artists on Instagram but I feel like she stands out from them all because of her unique style.

I was so disappointed when she didn’t win the NYX Face Awards last year the looks she created were amazing. But I was so proud that she got as far a she did and it was a great way for her to showcase her talent.

2. Vlada Haggerty/ Vladamua

Vlada has to be one of my top 2 favourite artists on Instagram, her lip art and photography is amazing. You can tell the time she puts into her looks because of the sheer detail. I wish I could own one of her art prints because her work is amazing but unfortunately she only ships within the U.S.

She has recently launched a collection with Smashbox and I really hope it will be available in Australia because it just looks stunning. The collection is inspired by her love of rose gold, so you know it’s going to be beautiful. If I can’t purchase one of her prints I would love a piece from this collection.

3. Atleeeey

I have been following Ash for a while, I actually found her through her Youtube channel a few years ago. I really love her style, she creates some really bold looks that I love and I’m really inspired by her use of colour both in her looks and her feed.

I love following her she inspires me so much, because of her I’ve been really inspired by primary colours and I’m planning on going back to red hair which I haven’t had for many years because I loved the way it looked on her.

4. Marion Moretti/ marioncameleon

Marion creates some great looks and often posts multiple looks using one palette which I love because I can see hows it can be used in multiple ways. She creates some bold but wearable looks that really inspire me to want to practice my makeup skills and play with different colour combinations.

She is a certified makeup artist from Paris, I love watching her videos to see how she creates her looks, I just wish I knew French so I could understand what she is saying but that language barrier won’t stop me from enjoying watching her create amazing looks.

5. Kelseyanna Fitzpatrick/ kelseyannaf

I love following people who are bold and inspire me to jump outside the box, Kelseyanna is one of those people who inspires me to go outside my comfort zone when it comes to makeup. She is one of four makeup artist that is part of the Kat Von D Artistry Collective and while I love following them all I’ve only included two in this post.

I love Kelseyanna’s work, she creates colourful looks in her signature style and isn’t afraid to create something different which is what I love about following her.

6. Steffanie Strazzere/ sstrazzere

Steff is also a member of the Kat Von D Artistry Collective, I really love her style but also her use of colour. She inspires me to want to create bold and colourful looks as well as embrace my darker punk rock goth side which I can be afraid to show.

I love following these girls because Kat Von D Beauty is one of my favourite artistry brands and they inspire me to crawl out of my comfort zone and try new things when it comes to makeup. I love watching the official videos for the Kat Von D Artistry Collective to learn new techniques and just generally be inspired.
