10 Ideas For Celebrating Halloween at Home

Halloween is almost here, Yay, while we don’t celebrate it much here in Australia, I thought I would put together a list of ideas for celebrating Halloween at Home. While most of the world is getting vaccinated against Covid, we still have a long way to go until we can have some sort of normal, so this means we still may have to think of alternative ways to celebrate holidays and birthdays, etc.

In today’s post I have come up with a few ideas of things you could do to celebrate halloween, whether it be with your house-hold(family, house-mates, etc) or by just yourself, I hope that you find some inspiration among the ideas in the list below.

Just because parties and trick or treating may still be of the cards, that doesn’t mean you can still get into the Halloween spirit by decorating your house or apartment. Get the whole family or whom ever your living with involved in decorating the house, You could even go a step further and make some DIY decorations with whatever you have around to house or make an order for some crafting materials , you could also Carve a Pumpkin , it might be messy but I’m sure you will all have a lot of fun.

Read A Book or Tell a Spooky Story

If your a bit of a book nerd like me why not pick up a spooky story to read, grab some snacks and enjoy. Or read an age appropriate story to your kids. Alternatively why not share some spooky stories with each other that sounds like a lot of fun, I mean you could dim the lights, grab a torch you know that old chestnut lol.

Have a Virtual Party or Just for your Household

If an actual party is of limits then why not have virtual party or just a small one with those in your household. Everyone could make there own snack, put on a costume, share a Halloween playlist or watch a movie while on a virtual call with your friend and family. I’m sure you could still make it fun.

Or if your an Animal Crossing New Horizons fan why not decorate your island for the spooky season and host a Halloween party, then you can invite all your friends to come over for a visit (in game of course.)

Play a game featuring a Haunted House

We might not be able to necessarily go to a haunted house, so why not play a game featuring a haunted house like Luigi’s Mansion instead. I’m currently playing through number 1 (on my 3ds) and 3 (on switch) of Luigi’s Mansion and I’m having a great time. You get to go through multiple levels, where you have to vacuum up various ghosties and rescue all of Luigi’s friends. It been a lot of fun and you can team up with friends either locally or over the internet to make your way through the game. (note: it does require both Nintendo Switch Online Subscription and the Luigi’s Mansion 3 Multiplayer DLC if you want to use the online multiplayer aspect of the game as well as the multiplayer add on for local multiplayer.)

Have a Halloween Themed Treasure Hunt In Your House or Backyard

You know when you were a child and your parents might set up an easter egg hunt at easter and you had fun going around and finding them all, well I thought it would be cool to do something similar to that but with halloween candy. So if trick or treating is off the cards why not set up a bit of a treasure hunt for your kids in your house or back yard. You could do it easter egg style or go for a full on treasure hunt giving the kids clues on where they can find stashes of candy or other Halloween goodies.

Watch Disney Virtual Halloween Spectacular & Parades

So we all know that Disney Parks love their big holiday celebrations but did you know that you can find a bunch of them to watch online. I’ve listed a few below that you can find and watch on Youtube.

Disney Parks also have a bunch of other spooky themed content like tours, makeup tutorial, baking tutorials, etc.

Disney + have some great behind the scenes documentaries around the creation of different rides and attractions, so if you have Disney + I recommend checking out Behind The Attraction (particularly the episodes on the Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror) as well as Imagineering. They also have some family friendly movies on there including ‘Halloween Town (1,2,3 & 4)’ as well as ‘Mickey’s Stories – Halloween Spooktacular’, ‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘Nightmare before Christmas’, ‘Haunted Mansion’, etc.

Harry Potter Virtual Tours

If Disney isn’t your jam then why not check out some of these Harry Potter virtual tours.

I found these through bon-voyage with kids blog post, you should go check it out she has some links to harry potter themed snacks as well as an online school where you can experience magical education for yourself or your kids.

I hope this blog post gave you a few ideas on things you could do to celebrate Halloween, I know I’ll be trying some of them. I defiantly want to try and make a pumpkin pie or something inspired by it, As well as decorating a bit, that’s always fun and maybe dress up and watch a movie or some of those Disney Events, so many possibilities.

I’m hoping to share some more halloween content in the next couple of weeks, unfortunately I’m going through a lot with my chronic illnesses right now so its making things a bit hard, but I would love to film at least 1 makeup tutorial and film some harry potter gameplay videos, so I’ll just have to see how I go.

Anyway let me know if you found inspiration from my post and what you are doing to celebrate Halloween this year?

Until next time, I hope you all have a lovely day,

Erin.
