Toofaced Cosmetics Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

Palette Of The Month | Toofaced Cosmetics ‘Sweet Peach’ Eyeshadow Palette Review

Hey Everyone, I’m back for part 2 of my ‘Monthly Palette‘ Review, Today I’m sharing with you my review on the Toofaced Cosmetics ‘Sweet Peach‘ palette. If you didn’t see my part 1 on the Lifes A Festival‘ palette you can check it out here.

I have owned this palette for a while, It has been a favourite for a couple of years now but, I have to admit I haven’t picked it up in a while. When I was picking an accompanying palette to go with the ‘Lifes A Festival‘ Palette, I knew this one would probably go quite well with it.

During the last month, I used this on its own as well as with some shade from the ‘Lifes A Festival‘ palette. I felt that this gave me plenty of extra shades to help create some looks, mostly the mattes which the other palette didn’t have too many of, it also had some shade I could use to help add a bit of depth to my eye looks.

My Thoughts On The Toofaced Cosmetics ‘Sweet Peach’ Eyeshadow Palette

This isn’t the first time I have done a review on this palette but I was having a lot of trouble with the images on the original post, for some reason they stopped working so and I couldn’t fix the problem, so in the end, I decided to just delete it. Because I knew I would probably do an updated one at some point.

And that is why we are here right now. I still think this is one of my favourite palettes, from Toofaced especially. I think It has some stunning shades and finishes, but it’s definitely not full proof, it has its flaws which I will talk about later on in this post.

The Packaging

I love the packaging on all the products I have from this collection but I especially love the packaging on the eyeshadow palette. It’s very similar to the packaging on the Toofaced ‘Chocolate Bar’ palettes but it has peaches embossed instead of hearts or the rectangles that give that chocolate bar look.

The packaging is made of metal and is quite sturdy, on the inside it has a mirror though for me personally I find it kind of small so I tend not to use it.

Underneath each eyeshadow shade, the name of each is printed which I like, as a blogger and makeup lover, I love when brands print names inside the palette instead of on the back or on a removable plastic sheet, it makes it a lot easier for reference.

The Eyeshadows

As far as the actual eyeshadows go, I feel like even though this is an older palette now most of the shades still perform similarly to the way they did when I purchased it. The metallics still perform nicely, though I do think I like them better when I foil them and the mattes still blend just as nice.

This palette features 18 eyeshadows inspired by peaches and includes a mixture of finishes (satins, metallics, shimmer/frost, and mattes). It contains 0.95 g/ 0.03 oz for each eyeshadow or a total of 17.1g/ 0.54 oz.

I know when this palette first came out that a lot of people were confused by it because it didn’t have more peachy shades, but I personally can see that they were taking inspiration from different types and parts of the peach. The skin and flesh colouring as well as the peach pit and leaves on the peach tree, when you think about it that way you can see why they choose those colours.

I also love that like the ‘Chocolate Bar‘ palettes this is scented, but instead of a chocolate scent it has a peach scent, I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I love that I get a pleasant peachy scent everytime I open it.

For a full rundown and dupes for shades in this palette check out Temptalia’s review.

Metallics & Shimmers

This palette features quite a few Metallic & Shimmer eyeshadows, some are more intense metallics and there are some that have less of shine and are more of a shimmer, or frost finish.

When playing with this eyeshadow palette this month I tried my hardest to use every shade and for a majority of the metallic/shimmer shade in here I really enjoyed using them. There were shades I just wanted to use over and over again and some that just didn’t draw me in but I tried to use them at least once.

I really enjoyed using ‘Luscious‘, ‘Cobbler’, ‘Bellini‘, and ‘Bless Her Heart‘. I would often use ‘Luscious‘ as an inner corner highlight when I used ‘Cobbler‘, ‘Caramelized‘ and ‘Bless Her Heart‘. I thought it looked really pretty but also I felt like I had to try something different because to me this palette only really has one shade that I thought was good as an inner corner highlight and that’s ‘Nectar’, which is a nice shade but I felt like it didn’t go with every colour in the palette.

I think it would have been great to have a light gold or peachy gold duo-chrome with a translucent base to use as an inner corner highlight or to use as a topper on some of the other metallic/shimmer eyeshadows.

I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the deeper shades in this palette in particularly ‘Peach Pit‘ & ‘Tempting‘, mainly I just wasn’t drawn to them but I like the fact that they have included a range of tones in here that could work on multiple skin tones.

Mattes

As for the Mattes in this eyeshadow palette, I think there is a good range of colours and tones but some of them are harder to work with than others. Particularly the deeper shades like ‘Delectable‘ I felt like it took a lot of building and looked quite muddy and patchy when trying to blend it out.

I made sure to feature some of the darker mattes in the eye looks which you can find further down in this post so that you could see what I was talking about.

While I love shades like ‘Peaches N’ Cream‘ & ‘Georgia‘ I feel like you didn’t need both. I often used ‘Peaches N’ Cream‘ as a base shade to set my eyeshadow primer, but I guess these would have been good for an all matte look but I could hardly see these on my skin tone which is very fair so I can’t imagine them showing up to well on deeper skin tones.

I guess you could use ‘White Peach‘ as a highlight on your brow bone or inner corner but instead of having a satin I would have loved this to have been that duo-chrome I mentioned earlier.

As for shades I really enjoyed, I dipped into ‘Puree‘, ‘Summer Yum‘ & ‘Charmed, I’m Sure‘ quite often, I thought these were good staple shades. I also dipped into ‘Talk Derby To Me‘ a few times but I’m not a big fan of mattes with glitter, in all honesty, I never really get why companies do that, but I used this to deepen my outer corner a bit or to line my lash line.

I loved pairing ‘Candied Peach’ with ‘Bellini‘ or ‘Just Peachy‘ for and all-over peachy look.

The Eye Looks

Look 1

What I used to create this look:

Base: Eyeshadow Primer set with an eyeshadow close to my skin tone.

Eyeshadow: I used ‘Puree‘ as a transition colour and then went in with ‘Summer Yum‘ to add a bit of depth, I then added a bit of ‘Summer Yum‘ & ‘Charmed I’m Sure‘ in the outer corner.

On my lid I used ‘Luscious‘ from the centre to inner corner (*foiled) and then tapped ‘Cobbler‘ in between ‘Charmed, I’m Sure‘ and ‘Luscious‘ to blend the colours together a little bit.

On my lower lash line I used ‘Charmed, I’m Sure‘ and smoked it out. For the inner corner, I used ‘Luscious‘ and then finished off the look with some brown eyeliner and mascara.

*For foiling I took some eyeshadow on my brush and sprayed it with setting spray to get the extra metallic look.

look 2

What I used to create this look:

Base: Eyeshadow Primer set with an eyeshadow close to my skin tone.

Eyeshadow: I used a mixture of ‘Georgia’ & ‘Candied Peach’ as a transition shade and then popped Delectable‘ & ‘Talk Derby To Me‘* on the outer portion of the eye and winged it out, making sure to also take it into the outer crease a little bit.

On the centre, to the inner corner of the lid, I used a mixture of ‘Bellini‘ & ‘Just Peachy‘(**foiled), for a pretty peach colour and then lined my lash line with ‘Talk Derby To Me‘.

For the lower lash line I used ‘Delectable‘ & ‘Talk Derby To Me on the outer portion and then added ‘Nectar‘ on the inner corner, I then added a bit of ‘Bellini’ in between two colours.

*The darker shades take some building up

**For foiling I took some eyeshadow on my brush and sprayed it with setting spray to get the extra metallic look.

Look 3

What I used to create this look:

Base: Eyeshadow Primer set with an eyeshadow close to my skin tone.

Eyeshadow: I used ‘Charmed, I’m Sure‘ in my crease and outer corner, and I blended it out with ‘Peaches N’ Cream‘. On the centre to the inner corner of my lid, I add ‘Bless Her Heart’ *(foiled).

On my lower lash line I added ‘Charmed, I’m Sure‘, blending it out and then topping with ‘Caramelized’, For my inner corner highlight I used “Luscious’

*For foiling I took some eyeshadow on my brush and sprayed it with setting spray to get the extra metallic look.

Final Thoughts

So for my final thoughts, I still love this palette and I have really enjoyed using it for the past month, so its still very much a favourite. I’ve found myself falling back in love with some of these eyeshadows and I love having this in my collection.

As for the palette its self its not perfect, there are shades in there that could have been much better, particularly some of those deeper shades and I felt like some of them definitely could have been swapped out for something more interesting.

But if you love the look of this palette and are looking for some peachy inspired shades then I would say this palette is a good one, if you were drawn to just a couple of shades, then check out Temptalia for similar dupes. She does very in-depth reviews and gives a great list of dupes for shades of various makeup items so if you are ever looking for a dupe her website is the place to go.

Thank you for checking out my review,

Next months palette is…

Violet Voss ‘Flamingo’ Eyeshadow palette

In case you didn’t catch my part one of January 2019’s palette review I chose the Violet Voss ‘Flamingo’ Eyeshadow palette for my next review.

Being summer I can’t get enough bright fun colours so I wanted to dip into another fun colourful palette for February.

This palette is fairly new to me and I’ve had a play here and there but I can’t wait to try it out some more and share my thoughts with you.

See you soon,

Blogging Tips & Tricks - Why You Should Start A Blog | Life Of Dahlia

Blogging Tips & Tricks – Why You Should Start A Blog | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Everyone, Welcome to my first Blogging Tips & Tricks post, today I will be talking to you all about why you should start a blog. If you saw my previous post about Why I Started My Blog you will know that I have been blogging on and off for many years. This is the first year I’m taking my blog more seriously and I want to share my journey with you so over the next year I will be sharing Tips & Tricks on Blogging and Social Media, as I learn what works for me I will share it with you.

Why You Should Start A Blog?

So why should you start a blog? well, it’s a place where you can share a little bit of you and what you are passionate about with others.

For me, starting a blog was to share things I loved or I am passionate about with others. I review products because I love being creative and trying new things out and I know there are people out there that are just as passionate about makeup as me.

Things You Should Think About When Starting A Blog?

Thinking about why you want to start a blog is really important? Is it to just share your passion with others, share your story or something you have learned? Or are you looking for a potential career or income? These are all important things to think about when starting a blog. Blogging can allow you to build something amazing and potentially bring you in money.

Even though I have been blogging for many years this is the first year I am taking it seriously so I am considering myself somewhat beginner like you, I’m always looking to learn and improve my knowledge. I’m still building my blog up to where I could potentially have it as an income. The prospect is both exciting and overwhelming but more exciting. It’s not something I’m in a hurry to achieve but its a goal for the future.

How Blogging Can Helps You Gain Confidence

As the years have gone by I have found myself become more confident with writing, but I still need to gain confidence in other areas so I admit I’m not the greatest example because I have a lot of work to do. I hope one day I can have enough confidence to get out and interact with like-minded bloggers.

I’ve read a lot of blog posts where bloggers have talked about gaining confidence through posting on their blogs, So that’s a good thing.

Recently I went back through some of my old blog posts and It was really interesting to see how far I had come with my confidence in writing and sharing my views on things. It will be awkward at first but as time goes on you will find your writing style and gain more confidence.

I have found that as time goes on I’m less afraid to share parts of myself and my creative personality. When I was a kid I really didn’t like having my picture taken but over the years and this is where I feel like blogging has helped me gain confidence, I’m no longer afraid to have my picture taken, I take them of myself now.

It will take time and it will take you out of your comfort zone but its worth it.

Blogging has a low up-front cost

I asked you before why you wanted to start a blog? and there was a reason for that because that all comes down to investment in your blog. If you are just wanting it as a sort of diary to share your story or weekly comings and goings you may be able to get away with having a free-blog, I started out this way It was only recently that I started to invest more money into my blog.

If you’re looking at taking it a little more seriously there are a few options available to you as well.

Honestly finding the right place can be overwhelming, you can use a free platform (like wordpress.com or blogger) and get a domain name or go self-hosted. When I was researching this I myself felt overwhelmed with so much information.

Most places will tell you to go self-hosted but there is more work to put into self-hosted so It all depends on preference really, if you have the skills to build your blog from the ground up or have the money to invest in getting someone to design it for you then go self-hosted.

I have been using WordPress.com for years with the free domain name offered by them, so I decided to stay with them because I knew how it all worked and I was overwhelmed by the prospect of moving my blog to another place.

Even If you decide that you want to invest in your blog, whether that be going self-hosted or investing in upgrading your free WordPress account it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune there are a lot of options out there but you need to expect that it may cost you around or over $100 a year so you are going to need to take this into consideration.

This cost may seem like a lot but if you break it down per month it’s not as much as it seems. WordPress.com, for example, offers four different plans,

  • free (you will be limited to a free domain name yourblog.wordpress.com and themes offered.)
  • Personal $5 (per month, billed yearly) this gives you a domain name such as Yourblog.com for example + extra themes, storage space, removes WordPress ads from your blog + a bunch of other options.
  • Premium $10 (per month, billed yearly) this gives you a domain name, offers you unlimited themes to choose from, extra storage, video capabilities, site monetization and advanced design customization just to name a few.
  • Business $33 (per month, billed yearly) this is great for businesses because it offers the same as above but with great business features. This also allows you to install plugins on your site.

You can find more information about their plans here.

I’m not an expert by any means, I’m just sharing my thoughts and what works for me, feel free to ask questions I’ll try and answer them as best as possible.

If you’re interested in knowing more about how to get started on wordpress.com or blogger I will have a post coming up soon on how to create a blog with these platforms.

10 Things You Don't Know About Me | Life of Dahlia

10 Things You Don’t Know About Me | Life Of Dahlia

Hey, guys, we are getting a bit personal today, I’m going to share with you 10 things you may not know about me. I feel like I’m turning over a new leaf with my blog I want to share myself and hopefully put a little bit of my personality into my writing, I’ve felt like I haven’t really done that much in the past, I was always more straight to the point but I feel like that can be a bit boring for people to read.

I guess I want to keep that but add some more of me in there because I know long posts can be hard to read. If you are anything like me you and have a short attention span, long posts can be overwhelming.

10_things_you_dont_know_about_me_selfportraits_life_of_dahlia

Some Interesting Facts About Me:

1. I love learning, no seriously I am always looking to learn new things. I have been studying on and off for many years, I’m drawn to creative courses and I have studied at least seven or so different courses over the years in art, photography, graphic design and now makeup. I’m an artist at heart so I’m always looking to learn and explore different things.

2. I love photography, I don’t know but you may have guessed that already. I’ve been fascinated with photography since I was young, I would play with my mum’s old film camera and take pictures of all different kinds of things. I studied darkroom photography which was really interesting to learn but these days I tend to stick with my digital camera, it’s easier and cheaper in the long run.

3. I’ve always been fascinated with the past and by that, I mean different times and what things were in fashion at the time. I think that’s why I love collecting things that remind me of those times, like vintage clothing or jewellery, cameras or tea sets.

4. I take self-portraits, well actually I haven’t done it in a while but I do love the process I’m hoping to get back into it soon. By self-portrait, I don’t mean a selfie of my makeup it’s much deeper than that, it’s about creating a story through photography.

5. I’m a Sci-Fi Buff, I’ll blame my mum for that it’s her fault I’m addicted to sci-fi and fantasy shows. It all started with Stargate: SG1 and went from there.

10_things_you_dont_know_about_me_nature_life_of_dahlia

6. I love fantasy stories and am inspired by them, growing up my mum would read us stories like Harry Potter and we would watch movies Like The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland or Labyrinth, which are my all-time favourites. Ever since I’ve just found lots of inspiration in stories and have wanted to create them in my own way.

7. Listening to music is one of my favourite things, I will often listen to my current favourite band or album (which currently is Alter Bridge) before I go to bed it helps me relax and do a bit of mindfulness to calm my brain before going to sleep.

8. I love nature, though I definitely need to get out and enjoy it more, one of my favourite things to do is take photos of flowers there are so many and I just think they are beautiful.

9. I have an odd personality I decorate my space with lighter colours and fantasy inspired objects, but I listen to rock music and dress in band t-shirts and dark colours.

10. The last thing you may not know about me is that I have a few pets, I have 1 dog his names Olli, his like my child and I have two fish tanks 1 big and 1 small with approx 20 fish overall, I want to get some more though there is still plenty of room in my big one. I was addicted to the show Tanked and it inspired me to buy a fish tank, its hard work mainly the cleaning and water change but I love feeding them every morning and watching them play together.

There you go that’s 10 things you may not know about me, I hope you enjoyed reading it and I would love to know if we have anything in common.

What are your favourite things to do? Do you have any Pets or Hobbies?

My Top 5 Favourite Marvel Movies | Life of Dahlia

My Top 5 Favourite Marvel Movies | Life Of Dahlia

Hey guys, I love doing fun posts where I share some of my favourite tv shows and movies with you, this one is all about my favourite Marvel Movies. Honestly its so hard for me to choose favourites because I love so many of them but I’ve managed to compile a list of My Top 5 Favourite Marvel Movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy

I love this movie so much, the story is really awesome but I feel like the soundtrack makes this movie so much better. I love the music in these movies they are just such awesome collections of so many great songs.

‘Goot’ and ‘Rocket’ have to be my favourite characters in this movie, but all the characters are great and there are so many funny moments in this movie that make me love them all.

Thor: Ragnarok

The ‘Thor’ movies have to be some of my favourites from the ‘Avengers’ universe, Both ‘Thor’ and ‘Loki’ have to be my favourites I love them both and I love their stories. This movie though has to be my favourite, I love that it has more comedy to it and I love the guardians of the galaxy vibes it has.

It’s also nice to see ‘Bruce Banner’ aka ‘The Hulk’ in this movie, I love that we got to know The Hulk better I feel like we haven’t really seen to much other than him smashing things in a long time. I feel like we have seen ‘Bruce Banner’s’ story but not ‘the Hulks’, I know they are the same person but they are two different personalities.

Captain America – The Winter Soldier

When I first saw ‘Captain America’ I actually didn’t think that I would like it but I was pleasantly surprised that I actually really enjoy his story. In the ‘Winter Soldier’, we get to see Bucky’s return as the ‘Winter Soldier’ which I’m sure shocked a lot of people like me. I haven’t read any of the comic books it was never my thing but I love superhero movies.

It was actually hard to choose between this one and ‘Civil War’, I love that we get to see Bucky’s story in these, where he has been, what happened to him. I think he is an interesting character and adds some interesting elements to the stories.

Avengers – Age of Ultron

As much as I love Loki, I actually think ‘Age of Ultron’ is my favourite Avengers movie, I have seen part 1 of ‘Infinity War’ and I liked most of it so far but I feel like I can’t comment on it yet as I’ve only seen it once. ‘Age of Ultron’ has a really interesting storyline an I love that they had James Spader do the voice of ‘Ultron’ I think his voice makes this character even more menacing and scary.

I feel like this was the movie where I started to dislike ‘Tony Stark’ more like Stan Lee says he created a character people should hate and try to make them love him. I really liked this character but as his story goes on I feel like he just annoys me more, but I do think the movies would be very boring if he wasn’t there to shake things up a little.

X-men – Day of Futures Past

I couldn’t not include an ‘X-men’ movie, I like these movies but there are only a couple that I really love, including ‘Days of Futures Past’. I love that this movie collides past with future and that we get to see both James McAvoy & Patrick Stewart as ‘Professor Charles Xavier/ Professor X’.

This movie has so many cool characters in it, including ‘Mystique’, ‘Magneto’, ‘Wolverine’ just to name a few but also ‘Trask’ who is played by Peter Dinklage. I love seeing him in movies and tv shows he just plays some really interest and sometimes funny characters.

What are your favourite Marvel Movies? Are you Team Avengers or Team X-men? let me know in the comments..

IMSTYLEWIGS Wig Haul | Life Of Dahlia

IMSTYLEWIGS Wig Haul | Life Of Dahlia

Update: Hey guys I just wanted to let you guys know that since posting this the brand has increased their prices, I’m really annoyed as they were affordable and are now just as expensive as everywhere else.

Hey guys, If you have been following me for a while you will have noticed that I occasionally use wigs in my photos, I love being able to change up the colour of my hair and to pair different wigs with different looks. I’ve been looking to upgrade some of my wigs to some nicer lace front wigs, but often I find that they are just ridiculously expensive, that was until I discovered Imstylewigs via Instagram.

I was really surprised to find some decent lace front wigs on their site for well under $100 which is fantastic because I just don’t want to spend that much on one wig. So far I’ve ordered four wigs and I’m amazed by the quality, the fibers are fine & smooth and it has a nice amount of fibers on each wig that I feel like I’m wearing my own hair and not a wig. I feel like they aren’t overly shiny either which helps create the illusion that I’m not wearing a wig.

I’m still figuring out how to blend it to look natural in the front but I will often wear a headband or beany to help disguise it. I also love that I get two wig caps and some adhesive strips with each wig though I’m still figuring out how to use the adhesive strips.

I’m including pictures of each wig below so that you can see how beautiful they are and I’ll include some to show you the without any accessories as well as styled.

I’m wanting to practice and showcase more creative looks both here on my blog but also on my social media so wigs come in handy for changing things up a bit.

Style – #3200 Long Straight Orange Lace Front Wig 24 Inches

I love the colour of this wig because it reminds me of the orange I had my hair last year, The length is a lot longer than I’ve ever had my hair grown naturally, it makes me feel like a mermaid with how long it is.

All these wigs have three clips inside to help keep it in place, two in the front and one in the back. I honestly wish there were three in the front because I feel like that would be better, especially because the one in the back is useless to me just because I have an undercut. I may move them to the front later.

Style – TEST5-DRBG Green Short Straight Lace Front Wig

I purchased this one because I wanted a shorter style, just in case I wanted to wear one out, the hairline may need some plucking because it’s quite dense and looks somewhat unnatural but the style is nice and I love the colour.

I love the feeling of these wigs the hairs feel so nice an silky, it feels like when I wash my hair and add in an oil or treatment after.

Out of all of these, I feel like this is the only one that might need some dry shampoo to lessen the unnatural shininess especially on the darker part of the wig.

Style – 3700# Long Wavy Purple Lace Front Wigs Cosplayer 24 Inches

I’ve always wanted purple hair so that’s what made me choose this style, this wig is really pretty and I love the curls because they are more loose and natural looking than some curled wigs.

I went with a warmer purple because I felt like it would be more flattering with my skin tone than a cooler toned purple, which I thought might make me look a bit drained out.

Style – Dark yellow synthetic lace front drag queen wigs [N2-3300]

I’m about to move on from having yellow in my hair, I need a change but I still love the way yellow looks on me which is why I purchased this wig so I could still be yellow occasionally.

This style is very similar to the orange wig and I honestly love this style because I’m not one to do much with my hair, while I love the way my hair looks curled I just don’t like the effort I have to put in because it takes too long to do. I usually would just have a straight style like this so I don’t mind it.

I also feel like this style is much easier to style, I can put braids in without wrecking any curls or worry about it getting tangled as much.

What wig brands have you tried? Have you tried Imstylewigs? What did you think about their wigs? let me know in the comments.

P.S. What do you think about my new website, honestly I love it is just fits my personality really well, it may still need a few tweeks but I’m really happy with it.
