Products Empties – What I’ve Used Up| Life Of Dahlia

Hey everyone, today I’m sharing with you some products I’ve used up and what I thought about them, will I be picking up another one or passing to try something else.

Product’s I’ve used up

Products Empties - What I've Used Up | Life Of Dahlia

Skincare

I’ve used up quite a few skincare items recently, including two moisturizers, a face cleanser, serum, facial scrub and micellar water. It’s really nice to look back and see how much I’ve used up, this year my aim was to finish up a lot of backups and I’m starting to see the kind of progress that I hoped for.

Nutrimetics – Honey & Almond Scrub

I’ve been through a few of these over the years, I really enjoy this product, it’s my mum’s favourite as well. It’s a great product that I’ve enjoyed time and time again, it contains Apricot Extract, Peppermint oil, Almonds and Oatmeal, it gives a gentle exfoliation while making the skin feel hydrated and refreshed. I will probably pick another one up at some stage but I’m wanting to branch out and try new things.

Essano – Rosehip Gentle Facial Cleansing Micellar Water

This is my go-to Micellar Water, I’ve used up many of these and I will keep purchasing more, its a fantastic product. It removes makeup well and the rosehip helps with healing and hydrating the skin. I will definitely be repurchasing as its a staple in my skincare routine and if you have been following me for a while you will know that Essano is one of my go-to skincare brands.

Sukin – Sensitive Facial Moisturiser

Another brand that I love is Sukin Organics, I’ve tried quite a few of their products including this facial moisturiser from Sukin’s sensitive range. I quite enjoyed this it’s a great daily moisturiser that helps keep my skin moisturised and hydrated. I’m wanting to try some new products but I’m sure I will pick up one of Sukin’s moisturisers at some point in the future. I’m currently trying to finish up one of their other moisturisers so I’m sure you will see that in an empties later in the year.

Biore – Free Your Pores! Baking Soda Pore Cleanser

I think I had this from a Priceline bag, Biore is not a cruelty-free which I’ve since found out so I won’t be purchasing any of their products in the future unless they decide to go cruelty-free. I try to use as many products as I can that are cruelty-free but I also don’t like to be wasteful, I usually go into bags like the Priceline one with my mum or sisters this was just a product left over that no one wanted so I wasn’t going to waste it, because it would just end up in landfill somewhere, I would rather finish it and just not repurchase.

The Ordinary – “Buffet” Serum

I think I talked about this product in my current skincare routine post, I enjoyed this product it was quite good and The Ordinary is a Cruelty-free brand, with some great skincare for affordable prices. I’m not sure if I will re-purchase or purchase anything more from them, I want to try out other brands and products, so we will just have to see.

Nutrimetics – Comfort Calming Day Cream

Again I think I also talked about this in my current skincare routine post, I was using this as more of a night cream because it was quite hydrating and I found that it took a while to sink in. I did enjoy this and Nutrimetics is a long time favourite brand of mine I enjoy trying out their skincare and body products more so than their makeup.

I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase this particular product, I did like it maybe if this comes on sale again in the future I might consider re-purchasing.

Body & Hair

Essano – Rosehip Oil Repairing Body Wash

Like I said Essano is one of my favourite brands, I really enjoy a lot of their products including their body washes, they last me months. I love this one, in particular, the scent is beautiful and I’m a big fan of their Rosehip products. I will definitely be repurchasing in the future, these retail for $10 and last four or five months if not more for me so I will absolutely keep repurchasing.

Camille & Mae – Dream Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream in Juicy Peach

I received this in a set at Christmas time, I’m currently trying to use a whole bunch of them up. I loved this Juicy Peach scent it was beautiful and not overpowering, I find some scented hand creams can often have very strong scents. I really liked this and I can’t wait to try others from this brand, the packaging says they are cruelty-free but I couldn’t find much information on the brand, I think they are a Priceline Australia brand and as far as I know, Priceline in-house brands are but I’ve sent an email to see if they can confirm this.

Essano – Argan Oil Of Morocco Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner

This was from my Samples Project Pan, I used up these Shampoo & Conditioner mini’s from Essano, it’s from their Argan Oil range. I have purchased full-sizes of these in the past and really enjoyed them, I love Essano’s hair care range and would definitely consider purchasing these in the full-size in the future.

I did think these minis were technically a single use for me and they might be for other people as well, I use a lot of shampoo and conditioner but I think it’s a great way to try them out.

Products Empties - What I've Used Up | Life Of Dahlia

Disposables

Coles – Makeup Removal Pads & Kirkland – Daily Facial Towelettes

I used up two packets of the Coles Makeup Removal Pads & the last of my Kirkland face wipes. I’m not sure if I will be picking these up again. I’ve recently picked up some organic cotton makeup removal pads from The Body Shop I’ll probably keep purchasing these and looking into other products in the future.

I used to purchase Simple wipes I thought they were cruelty-free but have since found out that may not be the case which is unfortunate. I have found out that Kirkland’s personal care products are considered cruelty-free so If you do like their wipes and were wondering cruelty-free kitty says they are. This may change my mind about purchasing them in the future nothing is set in stone yet.

I did have an aim to not purchase wipes at the start of the year but I do find them handy to have sometimes. Its okay to change your mind, where I live we are lucky enough to have some great recycling programs that make it easier to recycle soft plastics. I would like to look into some alternative products in the future so that I can stop purchasing things like this but I think I just need to sit down properly and do some more research.

It might take me a while to get an alternative product that I’m happy with.

Makeup (Project Pan & Declutter)

These items are mostly projected pan items, stuff I’ve used up and some that I am decluttering for reasons I’ll discuss below.

Bert’s Bee’s Lipstick

This is being decluttered because it’s expired, I haven’t had it for hugely long but its changed in the formula so I’m just getting rid of it just in case, It’s not my favourite colour so I’m okay with that. Unfortunately, this does happen sometimes and while I do talk about hating waste I also except that I’m not a minimalist so I know that this will occasionally happen.

I’ve also recently learned the Bert’s Bee’s may not be considered cruelty-free for too much longer as they have started selling in China, I hope they rectify this because it would be sad to see this brand give in to that markets testing policy’s for the sake of some extra money.

Savvy By DB –  Smooth Finish Primer

This has been a long time favourite of mine, I think like a lot of people I actually thought this brand was owned by DB Cosmetics who are a Cruelty-Free brand, I’ve since learnt that may not be the case. I think Savvy By DB is actually another of Priceline Australia’s in-house brands, I’ve contacted them to check on this brand’s cruelty-free status along with Camille & Mae. Hopefully, I hear back soon and can update on the status of these brands.

I do have a couple more of these to finish up but I’m not sure if I will repurchase in the future I want to look into other brands and maybe try some new primers. It also depends on their Cruelty-Free Status.

NYX Professional Makeup – Photo-Loving Primer

I love NYX products usually I’ve only ever had a few that I didn’t really like and unfortunately this was one of them. I added this into my project pan I’ve tried it a couple of times and I just really didn’t like it, I didn’t like how it felt on my skin and I couldn’t get my foundation to look nice on top. I would have loved to finish this up but unfortunately, it just doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

NYX Professional Makeup – Matte Liquid Liner

I used this up within a few days of my new project pan, I’ve been doing them seasonally since the middle of the year and this was a rollover product. I didn’t love or not love this product, I don’t know If I would repurchase, I think I want to try something new so probably not.

I didn’t think it was a bad product, I actually really enjoyed using it I think its one of the better ones I’ve tried in this format from the brand. I’ve only tried a small portion though so don’t quote me on that but I do think It’s not bad for an affordable liquid liner.

Physicians Formula – Organic Wear Mascara

This was going to go into my new project pan, I tried it a couple of times and it just made my eyes water so I’m decluttering it and I most likely won’t repurchase this.

Thank you for reading my post I hope you enjoyed seeing what products I used up, I’m sorry I rambled a bit in this one I apologise for that.

I’m currently going through a period where I’m wanting to make some more changes in my life or lifestyle. I’m certainly not a minimalist and I know that so I’m trying to make small changes where I can by being more mindful about what I’m buying and using, you may have seen my shopping addiction post earlier this month where I talked about my own story.

As a blogger and beauty/ makeup lover, I’m definitely enticed by new products, and for my blog I know I want to review things because that’s what I love doing but I’m trying to be more mindful about what I’m purchasing so that I don’t get overloaded with things again. I’m also trying to use more of what I have instead of purchasing things all the time like I really should stop buying lipsticks and using what I already have.

This is very much a psychological thing for me Its something I know that I want to work on and I know it’s not going to happen overnight. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been putting a lot of pressure on myself when I do purchase something, I’m trying to learn to be kinder to myself I’m not perfect and this is my personal journey it’s going to take time to make changes and its okay If I don’t get there straight away and make mistakes.

Thank you again for getting this far, I hope you enjoyed my post and I hope to see you in the next one.

Testing Andalou Naturals - Age-Defying Skincare Essentials | Life Of Dahlia

Testing Andalou Naturals – Age-Defying Skincare Essentials | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Beauty Lovers, today I’m sharing a skincare post all about Andalou Naturals ‘Age-Defying Skincare Essentials’ pack.

I picked this up a few months ago to test out once I had finished up a few other skincare products. This brand is actually fairly new to Australia, I picked this trial set up after seeing them advertised in one of Priceline Australia‘s catalogues. I love natural based skincare and Its great to see Priceline stocking more cruelty-free brands.

I love when brands have trial sets I think they are a great way to test out products before committing to the full-sized versions of products. If its something you enjoyed and didn’t have any reactions to then you can go ahead and pick up the full-sized products.

I decided to go ahead and pick up the ‘Age-defying’ set, I’m in my 30’s now and that means I really need to start using anti-ageing products to keep my skin nice and youthful. This set is good for people with dry skin, dull & flaky skin or has premature ageing with fine lines and wrinkles.

While I do have combo skin with oiliness in certain areas I do have drier skin in the winter time so I thought that this would be an interesting one to try out.

About Andalou Naturals

“The natural products industry embraces innovation and creativity, while entrepreneurship offers women a level playing field to succeed. For Andalou Naturals, my goal was to create an empowerment brand with a mission to influence an industry to do better, while creating a sustainable source of revenue for social responsibility.”

– Stacey Kelly Egide, Founder & CEO – sourced from Andalou Naturals Website

I love what this brand is about they create non-gmo products to empower women and want to better the planet by using sustainable resources and creating innovative products through plant science. Find out all about their standards here.

Andalou Naturals ‘Age-defying’ range

The ‘Age-defying’ range has ‘Resveratrol & CoQ10, super antioxidants that support skin wellbeing and essential building blocks to promote collagen & elastin for softer smoother appearance and youthful vitality.’ The basis of this range is the fruit stem cell complex, Resveratrol & CoQ10, ‘Resveratrol is often referred to as the ‘fountain of youth’ because it appears to be so effective at warding off many diseases associated with ageing‘ And ‘Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a basic substance that our bodies make naturally’ – source –Abeeco of New Zealand

Andalou Naturals derive their ingredients from plants, for example, Resveratrol in their products is derived from red grape skin and the Resveratrol Q10 is made from Resveratrol combined with Coenzyme Q10 which they derive from fermented vegetables.

I honestly find this stuff really fascinating, for Andalou’s full ingredients list you can find it on their website. The more I’ve been looking into this brand the more I love and want to support them, I think what they are doing is fantastic and I’m already wanting to try more of their products out.

My Thought On The Products

Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk

I don’t mind this as an everyday cleanser but I got the impression from the description that it could be used to remove my makeup like a cleansing oil, it didn’t do that at all but as a regular cleanser, I thought it was nice.

I really enjoy my current go-to cleanser so I’m not sure I would grab the full size of this one.

Blossom + Leaf Toning Refresher

I thought this was an okay toner it didn’t dry my skin out but the scent really bothered me it was quite strong and I think that’s what put me off finishing this all up. I don’t think this is something I would buy in the full-size.

BioActive 8 Berry Fruit Enzyme Mask

I’ve tried this a few times and I quite like it, my skin feels fresh and rejuvenated, It definitely did what it claimed and I would actually consider purchasing the full-size of this once I’ve finished up some of my current face masks.

Goji Peptide Perfecting Cream

This was a nice daily moisturizer, it made my skin feel hydrated, I don’t know if I saw much of a difference as far as fine-lines and wrinkles but I definitely felt like this was a good hydrating moisturizer. I would consider picking this up in the future.

Resveratrol Q10 Night Repair Cream

This one I’m actually not sure about, I liked it but I’ve been having some breakouts and I’m not sure if its been hormonal of if its because this contains Cocoa seed butter and that was the problem. I know ingredients like these can cause some people to break out so I’m on the fence about this one.

Have you tried Andalou Naturals? What are your thoughts and what would you recommend trying out? let me know in the comments.

I really enjoyed trying this out, I’m actually interested in trying out a couple of the products from this range that weren’t included in this pack the ‘Fruit Stem Cell Revitalize Serum’ & the ‘Hyaluronic DMAE Lift & Firm Cream’, they both look really great and if they are anything like the few products I enjoyed in this pack I’m sure I’ll like them enough to consider adding into my regular skincare routine.

Aussies can pick up Andalou Naturals from Priceline Australia, online or instore.

Thank you for reading my post, I hope you enjoyed it.

Sample Project Pan Update + Trying New Samples | Life Of Dahlia

Hey everyone, today I’m going to be updating you on my ‘sample project pan‘, I choose 10 or so samples using my roulette method, where I use the Decision Roulette app to choose my samples.

Today I’ll be updating you on my thoughts on the stuff I tried out and also choosing a few more samples to try.

samplespp_r1_lifeofdahlia.png

Samples Project Pan Update

In round 1 of my samples project pan picked out 10-12 different beauty samples to try, which were a combination of skincare and makeup.

Manuka Doctor – Illusion Rapid Lift Mask

I quite liked this product, I used it for the recommended 10 minutes and found I saw results from just one application. It definitely did what it claimed, smoothing and evening out my skin tone while reducing the appearance of pores, and plumping my skin.

I was able to get two or three masks out of this one sample which is really great. I did a small test patch before trying it out just to make sure I didn’t have a reaction due to the fact that this product contains bee venom. I would not recommend this product if you are allergic to bees.

Manuka Doctor is a Cruelty-Free brand, they are some information on their website about how they harvest their honey and bee venom for their products. I recommend checking this out if you are unsure.

manukadoctor.com.au

Stila Lip Trio

I’ve been really enjoying this sample of the Stila Lipsticks. I have almost panned ‘Jessie’ which was a nice nude, I was looking at purchasing this shade but have found similar shades in my existing collection.

I also really enjoyed the shade ‘Aubrey’ which was a pinky mauve shade I think, this wasn’t a colour I thought I would like but I actually really did. I quite enjoyed pairing this with my palette of the month this month I think they really went well together. I have since purchased something super similar to this one so I can’t wait to wear that more.

I haven’t used ‘Elyssa’ yet which is a dark berry shade, I will leave this in my project pan and finish this trio up.

TooFaced – Born This Way Foundation

I haven’t had the chance to test this out yet so I’ll be carrying to over into the next one.

7th Heaven  – Face Mask

At first, I didn’t mind this the scent it reminded me of lime cordial, I was able to get two applications out of this but I did notice that I left a green ting to my skin so I won’t be purchasing any of their masks. I also am moving away from purchasing things in these types of packaging I much prefer a tube or tub type packaging which are easier to recycle or reuse.

Kat Von D – Lock It Foundation

This shade was really dark for me so I tried to use it as a cream contour, bronzer and it was way too yellow on my skin so I didn’t get much use out of it. but that’s okay I’m moving away from Kat Von D anyway but I thought I would try and see if I could use this.

Josie Maran – Argan Infinity

I really enjoyed this product and would actually look at purchasing, I like things like this that are a very multi-purpose product. I really love using rose hip and stuff like that I feel like this is really similar so I would totally look at possibly purchasing in the future when I run out of similar products.

Essano – Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

Essano is one of my all-time favourite brands when it comes to skincare and haircare, I have previously used this shampoo and conditioner and really enjoyed it.

These travel-sized versions though were too small for me, I was able to stretch out this out over a couple of uses but I mixed it with my regular shampoo and conditioner so this is probably near one application for me if I’m being honest. I have a lot of hair and it just soaks this stuff up so I tend to have to use a lot.

Loreal – Elvive Extraordinary Oil (Not Cruelty-Free)

These were pretty old but I still thought I would try it out anyway, I wouldn’t purchase this because it’s not Cruelty-Free. I felt this did nourish my hair but the smell was really strong and I wasn’t a huge fan of it because of that reason.

Dr. Dennis Gross – Alpha Universal Daily Peel

I did like this product but what I didn’t like about it was the fact that they come in single-use packaging, I just find that really wasteful so I wouldn’t purchase it for that reason alone.

Smashbox – Photo Finish Foundation Primer

I liked this product as well I thought it was really nice but it was a bit dark for my skin tone and it has a tinge to it. It was fine if I used a fuller coverage foundation over the top, It did give a beautiful glow to my skin even with a heavy foundation over the top.

I may consider purchasing a product like this because I really liked it.

New Beauty Samples

Sample Project Pan Update + Trying New Samples | Life Of Dahlia

Above you will see my photo with my roulette results, I love doing this it adds a fun aspect to a project pan, I use this to randomly select my samples that way I will use everything.

In round two I will be trying out the following:

  • The Body Shop – Himalayan Charcol Face Mask.
  • By Terry – Baume De Rose Lip Balm (not CF)
  • Josie Maron – Argan Oil Foundation Fluid
  • Hourglass – Veil Mineral Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 15
  • Kevyn Aucoin – The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting – Candle Light
  • Ren Clean Skincare – Perfecting Canvas Serum
  • Deramlogica – Daily Micro Foliant
  • Grown Alchemist – Age Repair Eye Cream
  • Tacha – Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder
  • Eve Lom – Cleanser

I’ll be carrying over the Too Faced ‘Born This Way Foundation’ sample and whats left of the ‘Stila Lip Trio’.

What samples have you tried out that you really loved that made you want to buy the full size? Have you tried out any of the mentioned ones let me know your thoughts?

This has been such a fun method of Project Panning, I hope you enjoyed this post,

I’ll see you in the next one.

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

What I’m Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Hey, guys, I thought it would be interesting to do a mid-year update on my low buy/ what I’m not going to buy this year.

If you didn’t see my post at the start of the year where I talked about what I’m not going to buy in 2018, you should go check it out I gave my thoughts on why I wanted to be a more mindful shopper.

So I talked about what things I was going be buying less of this year, I wanted to restrict myself so that I didn’t buy to much stuff this includes makeup and beauty products as well as clothes and trinkets.

Low Buy Update

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Makeup & Beauty Products

At the start of the year I wanted to give myself the ability to only buy one or two nonessential items, I decided that I could have one expensive or two less expensive items a month this was on both makeup and beauty products like skincare.

Some months were pretty good particularly in January and February, where I only purchased one palette each month and that was it. There were some months here and there where I did purchase a few extras.

In the last month though I feel like I’m at a point where I’m only wanting to purchase things that I don’t have anything like. In June I made a few purchases because I wanted to review things but now just want to use what I already own.

As for skincare and haircare, I have pretty much just stuck to what I had and only purchased things that weren’t currently in my routine or needed to replace like toner, fave scrubs and hair treatments etc.

As for my choices to not buy products in certain packaging I have mostly stuck to that, I haven’t purchased any sheet masks I’m just concentrating on using up current products that are in my stash.

I’ve only purchased two products in bag type packaging, I have more thoughts on packaging and companies who claim to be cruelty-free etc and don’t think about being eco-friendly too, which to be honest is probably quite hard in this day and age where everything comes in plastic packaging. It’s been on my mind a lot and I’m still deciding what I’m going to do as far as purchasing certain items but I feel like all things take time.

I may go into this some other time but for now, I’m just focusing on this post.

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Clothing and Accessories

As far as clothing goes I’ve only purchased a few things, a couple of jackets I probably didn’t need them but I feel like these are staples in my wardrobe and will be for years to come but at this point, I don’t plan on buying any more.

I also purchased some light clothing for winter (I did purchase this new, which I would usually buy secondhand) and a couple of pairs of leggings from the Blackmilk labyrinth 2.0 collection, which leggings are what I like to wear most of the time so I was totally fine with this purchase, no guilt.

As for accessories, I purchased a necklace and shells from Secret Wood and some Shoes from Tuk Footwear. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I purchased new shoes or jewellery for myself, I’ve been wanting to purchase something from these brands for some time so I did decide to go ahead and purchase from them.

I didn’t buy as much secondhand as I usually do but not really on purpose I just haven’t felt like going and searching through lots of clothes, I just wanted to find the things I needed.

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Decor, Art, Books

As far as decor is concerned I have purchased a few things here and there mostly organization stuff for my beauty room.

I’ve purchased a few art pieces from artists so I did purchase frames. My focus is here and I want to find a way to display my vinyl records which I’ve slowly been adding to.

I have actually purchased a few books but these are things I keep for a long time, even though I wasn’t going to buy any, but it’s not something I’m mad at myself for.

Outcome

I’ve been going through a lot this year with my anxiety, depression and fibromyalgia, I’ve been having a hard time so I’m not trying to put to much pressure on myself if I occasionally break my low buy.

I feel like I could totally have done better but with everything I’ve been going through I’m proud that so far of what I’ve accomplished.

I think my focus for the rest of the year is to focus on myself and slowly add artwork to my house, maybe travel. I also want to do a couple of things to my bathroom and kitchen so I’m going to focus on trying to save some money.

Have you been on a low buy this year? How are you going ? let’s chat in the comments.

Sample Project Pan Roulette | Life of Dahlia

Sample Project Pan Roulette | Life Of Dahlia

Hey guys, I had this fun idea of doing a project pan with a twist, I have a few samples to use up so I thought why not make it fun.

As you might know, I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather, thanks to my anxiety and depression, fibromyalgia. I have been going through a cycle of not wanting to wear makeup and when I do put some put some on I just want to take it off again. Its been rather frustrating because I just want to continue with my makeup project pan and get creative.

Sample Project Pan with Decision Roulette

I thought I would change things up a bit by using some of my samples, I just want to be inspired again to wear makeup. Anyway, I had this idea of doing a roulette or randomized picker to spice things up a bit, I found an app via the ‘Google Play Store‘ called Decision Roulette‘.

It’s pretty cool, the app allows you to add multiple roulette wheels, in each you can add up to 50 options and customize by colour, add images and change up the roulette wheel its self.

samplespp_lifeofdahlia

I added all my current samples and customize them by colour, pink for makeup, blue for hair and green for skincare. I was going choose 8 but I ended up choosing 9 because it was mostly skincare and makeup so I wanted to add some hair care as well.

sampleroulette_lifeofdahlia

Roulette Results

The app chose 4 skincare, 4 makeup, and 1 hair care item, though I might add both of them in because why not. My plan for this Project Pan is to choose new items every few weeks until they are all used up.

I love this idea so much that I’m planning on using this method for my Seasonal Project Pan and a new series I want to try out which is one month one palette reviews inspired by Kat from Kitchsnitch/ Beauty News.

samplespp_results_lifeofdahlia

Here are the results of my first roulette, I’m happy to try this stuff out, not everything is going to be my shade match but I might be able to use them as a cream bronzer/contour. And not everything is cruelty-free but I don’t like being wasteful so I’m happy to try these out and finish them up.

I hope you enjoyed my impromptu post and I hope it gives you some fun ideas to try.
