Testing Andalou Naturals – Age-Defying Skincare Essentials | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Beauty Lovers, today I’m sharing a skincare post all about Andalou Naturals ‘Age-Defying Skincare Essentials’ pack.

I picked this up a few months ago to test out once I had finished up a few other skincare products. This brand is actually fairly new to Australia, I picked this trial set up after seeing them advertised in one of Priceline Australia‘s catalogues. I love natural based skincare and Its great to see Priceline stocking more cruelty-free brands.

I love when brands have trial sets I think they are a great way to test out products before committing to the full-sized versions of products. If its something you enjoyed and didn’t have any reactions to then you can go ahead and pick up the full-sized products.

I decided to go ahead and pick up the ‘Age-defying’ set, I’m in my 30’s now and that means I really need to start using anti-ageing products to keep my skin nice and youthful. This set is good for people with dry skin, dull & flaky skin or has premature ageing with fine lines and wrinkles.

While I do have combo skin with oiliness in certain areas I do have drier skin in the winter time so I thought that this would be an interesting one to try out.

Andalou Naturals ‘Age-defying’ range

The ‘Age-defying’ range has ‘Resveratrol & CoQ10, super antioxidants that support skin wellbeing and essential building blocks to promote collagen & elastin for softer smoother appearance and youthful vitality.’ The basis of this range is the fruit stem cell complex, Resveratrol & CoQ10, ‘Resveratrol is often referred to as the ‘fountain of youth’ because it appears to be so effective at warding off many diseases associated with ageing‘ And ‘Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a basic substance that our bodies make naturally’ – source –Abeeco of New Zealand

Andalou Naturals derive their ingredients from plants, for example, Resveratrol in their products is derived from red grape skin and the Resveratrol Q10 is made from Resveratrol combined with Coenzyme Q10 which they derive from fermented vegetables.

I honestly find this stuff really fascinating, for Andalou’s full ingredients list you can find it on their website. The more I’ve been looking into this brand the more I love and want to support them, I think what they are doing is fantastic and I’m already wanting to try more of their products out.

Andalou Naturals is a “Non-GMO Project Verified and Gluten Free Verified, Certified Organic, Nature Derived, Vegan, Vegetarian, Sustainably Sourced and Fair Trade Ingredients, and Cruelty-Free” brand – sourced from Andalou Naturals Website

My Thought On The Products

Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk

I don’t mind this as an everyday cleanser but I got the impression from the description that it could be used to remove my makeup like a cleansing oil, it didn’t do that at all but as a regular cleanser, I thought it was nice.

I really enjoy my current go-to cleanser so I’m not sure I would grab the full size of this one.

Blossom + Leaf Toning Refresher

I thought this was an okay toner it didn’t dry my skin out but the scent really bothered me it was quite strong and I think that’s what put me off finishing this all up. I don’t think this is something I would buy in the full-size.

BioActive 8 Berry Fruit Enzyme Mask

I’ve tried this a few times and I quite like it, my skin feels fresh and rejuvenated, It definitely did what it claimed and I would actually consider purchasing the full-size of this once I’ve finished up some of my current face masks.

Goji Peptide Perfecting Cream

This was a nice daily moisturizer, it made my skin feel hydrated, I don’t know if I saw much of a difference as far as fine-lines and wrinkles but I definitely felt like this was a good hydrating moisturizer. I would consider picking this up in the future.

Resveratrol Q10 Night Repair Cream

This one I’m actually not sure about, I liked it but I’ve been having some breakouts and I’m not sure if its been hormonal of if its because this contains Cocoa seed butter and that was the problem. I know ingredients like these can cause some people to break out so I’m on the fence about this one.

Have you tried Andalou Naturals? What are your thoughts and what would you recommend trying out? let me know in the comments.

I really enjoyed trying this out, I’m actually interested in trying out a couple of the products from this range that weren’t included in this pack the ‘Fruit Stem Cell Revitalize Serum’ & the ‘Hyaluronic DMAE Lift & Firm Cream’, they both look really great and if they are anything like the few products I enjoyed in this pack I’m sure I’ll like them enough to consider adding into my regular skincare routine.

Aussies can pick up Andalou Naturals from Priceline Australia, online or instore.

Thank you for reading my post, I hope you enjoyed it.

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

What I’m Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Hey, guys, I thought it would be interesting to do a mid-year update on my low buy/ what I’m not going to buy this year.

If you didn’t see my post at the start of the year where I talked about what I’m not going to buy in 2018, you should go check it out I gave my thoughts on why I wanted to be a more mindful shopper.

So I talked about what things I was going be buying less of this year, I wanted to restrict myself so that I didn’t buy to much stuff this includes makeup and beauty products as well as clothes and trinkets.

Low Buy Update

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Makeup & Beauty Products

At the start of the year I wanted to give myself the ability to only buy one or two nonessential items, I decided that I could have one expensive or two less expensive items a month this was on both makeup and beauty products like skincare.

Some months were pretty good particularly in January and February, where I only purchased one palette each month and that was it. There were some months here and there where I did purchase a few extras.

In the last month though I feel like I’m at a point where I’m only wanting to purchase things that I don’t have anything like. In June I made a few purchases because I wanted to review things but now just want to use what I already own.

As for skincare and haircare, I have pretty much just stuck to what I had and only purchased things that weren’t currently in my routine or needed to replace like toner, fave scrubs and hair treatments etc.

As for my choices to not buy products in certain packaging I have mostly stuck to that, I haven’t purchased any sheet masks I’m just concentrating on using up current products that are in my stash.

I’ve only purchased two products in bag type packaging, I have more thoughts on packaging and companies who claim to be cruelty-free etc and don’t think about being eco-friendly too, which to be honest is probably quite hard in this day and age where everything comes in plastic packaging. It’s been on my mind a lot and I’m still deciding what I’m going to do as far as purchasing certain items but I feel like all things take time.

I may go into this some other time but for now, I’m just focusing on this post.

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Clothing and Accessories

As far as clothing goes I’ve only purchased a few things, a couple of jackets I probably didn’t need them but I feel like these are staples in my wardrobe and will be for years to come but at this point, I don’t plan on buying any more.

I also purchased some light clothing for winter (I did purchase this new, which I would usually buy secondhand) and a couple of pairs of leggings from the Blackmilk labyrinth 2.0 collection, which leggings are what I like to wear most of the time so I was totally fine with this purchase, no guilt.

As for accessories, I purchased a necklace and shells from Secret Wood and some Shoes from Tuk Footwear. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I purchased new shoes or jewellery for myself, I’ve been wanting to purchase something from these brands for some time so I did decide to go ahead and purchase from them.

I didn’t buy as much secondhand as I usually do but not really on purpose I just haven’t felt like going and searching through lots of clothes, I just wanted to find the things I needed.

What I'm Not Going To Buy Mid Year Update | Life of Dahlia

Decor, Art, Books

As far as decor is concerned I have purchased a few things here and there mostly organization stuff for my beauty room.

I’ve purchased a few art pieces from artists so I did purchase frames. My focus is here and I want to find a way to display my vinyl records which I’ve slowly been adding to.

I have actually purchased a few books but these are things I keep for a long time, even though I wasn’t going to buy any, but it’s not something I’m mad at myself for.

Outcome

I’ve been going through a lot this year with my anxiety, depression and fibromyalgia, I’ve been having a hard time so I’m not trying to put to much pressure on myself if I occasionally break my low buy.

I feel like I could totally have done better but with everything I’ve been going through I’m proud that so far of what I’ve accomplished.

I think my focus for the rest of the year is to focus on myself and slowly add artwork to my house, maybe travel. I also want to do a couple of things to my bathroom and kitchen so I’m going to focus on trying to save some money.

Have you been on a low buy this year? How are you going ? let’s chat in the comments.

Current Skincare Routine| Life Of Dahlia

Hey, my beautiful readers, I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things as you might know I’ve been taking it easy, I’ve been going through a rough few weeks with anxiety, depression and fibro flare-ups. I’ve been experiencing quite a few ups and downs recently so I knew that I just had to take a step back for my own sanity, But now I’m slowly getting back into things and I’m hoping to get back into posting more regularly I’m aiming for two posts a week with maybe the occasional third.

I was just spreading myself to thin and not giving myself time to relax and breath, something which for me is very important especially with having illnesses.

Anyway getting on to today’s topic I’m sharing with you my current skincare routine, from the pictures I’ve included it may seem like overkill but each thing has its purpose, which I will tell you about as I go.

current_skincare_routine_lifeofdahlia_1

Morning Skincare Routine

For my morning skincare routine I like to cleanse my face with the ‘Essano Rosehip Gentle Foaming Cleanser’ (this has been a staple in my skincare routine for many years and I still love it) on my ‘Conair True Glow Sonic Cleansing System’ brush, I use this all over my face pretty much daily.

I’ve been trying some new products recently one of which is the ‘Blessed By Nature Retoning Facial Scrub’ I have been using this a few times a week and really enjoying it.

After I get out of the shower I like to use the ‘Blessed By Nature Hydrating Mist Toner’ to help tone my skin while adding some hydration back into my skin.

As I’m getting older I find that my skin needs products to add hydration back in, while I’ve always had Oily/Combo skin I’m finding that as I get older parts of my face are becoming dryer so I like to make sure that I use products to hydrate as much as possible. Of course drinking lots of water helps too.

Next I will usually go in with ‘The Ordinary ‘Buffet’’ which helps with hydration and fine lines, I quite enjoy this product but I will probably not be repurchasing, I’m just not much into the brand and what they stand for, I would much rather find an alternative even if that means paying more.

Lastly, I will add my daily moisturizer, I’m currently panning a ‘Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturizer’ so this is what I have been using. I do quite enjoy Sukin’s moisturizers and I will defiantly repurchase in the future.

If you didn’t see my skin, body and hair project pan intro a few months ago I talked about panning a few skincare items, I’ll hopefully update you soon about what products I have used up so far, but go check that out if your interest.

Night & Weekly Skincare Routine

I’ve recently added in the ‘Natio Moisturizing Sun Lotion with SPF 50’ into my skincare routine, I will use this most days when I know I’m going to be out in the sun but I would like to get into the habit of using it every day.

I love face mask so I recently added the ‘Sukin Detoxifying Clay Masque’ into my project pan because I have way too many but this is one I really enjoy and love using once to twice a week.

I love using the ‘Nutrimetics Nutri-rich Ointment’ on my lips to add extra hydration when going in with a lip scrub, my lips can get quite dry so this is great before and after.

Night Time Routine

For my night time routine I will often use the ‘Essano Micellar Water’ as a light cleanser or to take makeup off at the end of the day before starting my night routine.

I recently added in the ‘Nutrimetics Comfort Moisturizer’ into my routine to pan after finishing up a night moisturizer, this for me is great as a nighttime moisturizer instead of a daily because it takes a while to seep into my skin. I love to pair it with the eye-cream both of which are on my list to use up so I can move on to trying out some new skincare.

Well, that’s everything, like I said everything has a purpose. I’ve been enjoying trying some new products but also panning some ones I currently have. I have been using the same thing for so long that I want to branch out this is where I will often add in things that I don’t currently have, like trying a new face scrub or toner.

Are you a project panner? What are your favourite things in your skincare routine? let me know below…

Beauty: Samples That I’ve Tried That Made Me Want To Buy The Full Size | Life Of Dahlia

Hey, Guys as a makeup and skincare lover I often get samples with my purchases from Sephora, Mecca and alike, If you’re like me you probably have a few in your beauty drawer. Today I’m going to be sharing with you some samples that I’ve tried that made me want to buy the full size (Just a note I haven’t purchased most of these yet but these samples really made me want to try the full-sized products.)

Samples That I’ve Tried

Mario Badescu: Botanical Exfoliating Scrub

I’ve tried a few samples of ‘Botanical Exfoliating Scrub’ and I loved it so much that it made me really curious about the brand. I’m currently trying out some affordable skincare but once I’m finished them I will definitely look at purchasing some products from this brand.

If you have tried anything from this brand I would love to know what products you really enjoyed? I have aging combo skin so If your skin is similar to mine I would love to know what products worked for you?

Bean Body: Coconut Coffee Scrub

I got a sample of the Coconut Coffee Scrub from Bean Body in a Priceline Skincare bag, I loved this and the Manuka Honey one which I purchased in a full-size I would repurchase again. I think my only negative is that brands like this market themselves as cruelty-free, no nasties etc but don’t let you know if you can recycle their packaging but based on the product its self I really enjoyed it and I would love to repurchase it.

Samples That I've Tried That Made Me Want To Buy The Full Size | Life Of Dahlia

Hour Glass Cosmetics: Veil Mineral Primer

This primer is seriously O.M.G, it’s so good, I received a few samples with my Mecca orders and I loved it so much I looked it up and was like okay not going to happen. If you know Hour Glass you know they aren’t cheap, on Mecca, this retails for $80 for a 30ml bottle, it is available in an 8.95ml, 30ml, and 59ml which cost $108.

As much as I love this I just can’t justify spending that much, I mean even the smallest size is still $27, I don’t mind paying that If I’m getting a nice quantity of products but not for what is essentially a travel size. I think I’ll just stick with my samples.

Hourglass is a brand I have been curious to try but for their pricing, I just can’t justify it in case the product doesn’t work for me.

Josie Maran: Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid

I received a decent sample of this with one of my Mecca orders it came with several shades, my shade is ‘Dynamic RG5’ which is the lightest and I really enjoyed this I felt like the sample size was good I could get a few applications out of it which means I could decide whether it really worked for me. Its a nice coverage and helped to even my skin out, it is probably something I will look into buying in the future.

Tarte: Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Glisten

I received a sample card with one of my Sephora orders that included, ‘Park Ave Princess’ and ‘Glisten’ I really enjoyed the blush and was looking at purchasing it but I found a similar blush I already had in my collection so I probably won’t purchase this in the future because I have something similar.

Samples That I've Tried That Made Me Want To Buy The Full Size | Life Of Dahlia
Image sourced from Mecca.com, copyrighted to Nars Cosmetics

Nars: Laguna Bronzing Powder (no longer Cruelty-free)

Nars is no-longer CF which is sad because I was really interested in trying out some of their products like the ‘Laguna’ bronzer which I received with a sample with a Mecca order, I really enjoyed it but seeing as they are no longer CF I won’t be purchasing it now.

What sample’s have you tried that made you want to purchase the full-size?

3 Affordable Cruelty-Free Skincare Brands You Should Try | Life of Dahlia

Skincare: 3 Affordable Cruelty-Free Skincare Brands You Should Try | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Guys, today I want to share with you three affordable cruelty-free brands I think you should try, these brands have a lot to offer not only do they offer affordable skincare but they also offer other products like body wash & lotions, hair care, etc.

Cruelty-Free Skincare Brands

I have used products from all these brands for some time and I honestly love the products that I use from each of them.

_MG_2048

Essano Beauty

I’ve been using Essano products for years and repurchased my favourite products from them multiple times, what I love is that Essano specializes in rosehip oil its one of the main ingredients in most of their products. They include it in their skincare, body wash & body lotions. I love Rosehip oil its great for aging skin like mine, Rosehip oil has natural actives, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, which help in creating a natural defense against fine lines, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.

They also offer some fantastic hair care with ingredients like coconut oil, argan oil, keratin and acai berry. Having coloured hair I need hair care products that don’t contain any sulfates because it can increase fading, it’s often hard to find that in an affordable price range.

Essano is certified organic, they are a sustainable company meaning they care about the environment and don’t test on animals, all this means that they are truly a cruelty-free company.

_MG_2050.png

Sukin Organics

I have used a variety of skincare products from Sukin Organics, including moisturizers and face masks. I have loved most of the products I’ve tried from this brand. What I love most about this brand is that they offer a variety of skincare for different skin types whether you have dry skin, oily, combo or aging skin you should be able to find something to suit your skin types.

Sukin offers more than just skincare, you can also find a range of haircare and body care products amongst their range. Sukin offers products that are made with Australian made ingredients that are naturally derived, cruelty-free and vegan so you don’t have to worry about finding any nasties amongst their ingredients.

_MG_2052.png

Palmer’s

Palmer’s is one you have probably heard of, their best-known product being their Cocoa Butter range, but did you know they offer skincare as well? In their range, you can find moisturizers, serums and cleansing oils.

I love their cleansing oil its great for getting rid of stubborn makeup, I can have a full face of makeup on and all I have to do is put some of this on top and then wash it off with water. My favourite though has to be the body lotions in either the cocoa butter or coconut oil formulas.

They have a huge range of products that includes skincare, body care, and hair care.

Palmer’s are a member of World Cocoa Foundation and Global Shea Alliance ‘which helps to provide economic, social and environmental support to farmers and their families around the world.’ Palmer’s are a cruelty-free brand they don’t test their products on animals and they are a member of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, which ‘helps set social and environmental standards for sustainable palm oil production, such as no clearing of primary tropical forests, conservation of natural habitats, and respect for workers and indigenous people. Palmer’s and its suppliers are committed to responsible and sustainable palm production.’ What’s not to love about that.

What are your favourite CF skincare brands? let me know in the comments.
