Thrifting Haul | Purchasing Second Hand Clothing from Savers

Thrifting Haul | Purchasing Second Hand Clothing from Savers

Hey Everyone, wow I haven’t shared a thrift haul in forever, I used to share these all the time back in the day, I love purchasing second-hand clothing, its fun to comb through the racks looking for gems.

Last year I actually purchased more new clothing than second-hand which is very unusual for me but this year I want to get back to looking for second-hand options before considering purchasing new. The only time I usually consider purchasing new clothing is when its something I know I probably won’t find something similar second hand, for example, if I’m looking for something very specific or something from Blackmilk etc.

Today I thought It would be fun to share some purchases from the latest trip I took to Savers. Savers has to be one of my favourite places to shop, their stores are quite big which means I usually find quite a few things to try on.

What I purchased

On my latest trip, I wanted to find some items I felt were missing from my wardrobe, like some shirts and cardigans for the cooler months.

I picked up a few shirts this time, I wanted something that I could layer over t-shirts and tops. I have a very laid back style, I love jeans, band t-shirts, and jackets. I usually go for converse, docs or sand shoes for everyday wear.

I felt like I would love to add in a few shirts that I could layer over t-shirts or plain tops and that would go well with jeans, skirts or shorts.

I also picked up a new pair of denim shorts, I wanted something comfortable and not too long or short. I’m okay with wearing shorter shorts but I’m also getting older and wanted something a bit longer than I could wear when going out and not feel too self-conscious in.

I picked up this Mustard shirt and a cardigan in a similar colour. I like both of them, the shirt is a nice light material and I love the button detail as well as the fact that I can pin up the sleeves if I want more of a half or 3/4 sleeve.

The cardigan is light but thick enough that I would be comfortable wearing it in the autumn weather.

I picked up this awesome shirt, I paired it with a white top in this photo just so you can see the detail on the back but I think this would look nice with a black tee or with a nice top if I’m going out for dinner.

I love the netting detail It brings me back to my love of fishnet tops and tights as a teen. I still secretly love this type of thing lol.

My main reason for going was to pick up a couple of cardigans, and when I saw these two I had to add them to my cart straight away. The black one on the left has two textures, the sleeves are like a faux suede finish with a knit look on the body.

The second one on the right has a faux leather look on the sleeves with a thicker wool type material with a tartan/plaid pattern which I totally love. You may not know this about me but Tartan is like my favourite pattern ever, I just love it I don’t know if it’s my Scottish heritage or what but I’ve always loved it and would own it in multiple types of clothing and shoes if I could.

I have previously owned a denim look shirt like this before and I donated it but have regretted that recently so I decided to pick another one up and give it another go. I think I just didn’t know how to style it but I’m going to give it another try.

I also picked up the black denim jacket, I’ve been wanting one for a while but never purchased one so when I saw this I decided to try it on. I love that it has that motorcycle jacket style which is one of my favourite styles and I think this would look nice with a high-waisted skirt.

This was definitely an impulse, I have a white skirt similar to this but it doesn’t fit perfectly I want to get it taken in so I can wear it but I love this netting look so I know I will wear this one as well. I think it looks edgy but also elegant so I can’t wait to wear it more.

The last year or so I have neglected a lot of my clothes, its so easy when you are at home every day to just wear leggings and a comfy top, this year on my journey to wellness I’m trying most days to get myself out of that rut. Somedays I might just feel like wearing comfy clothes especially if I’m not feeling well but I want to make a bigger effort to put proper clothes and shoes on every day to make myself feel better and not just slumping into I can’t be bothered mode. I hope that makes sense.

Thank you for checking in to read my latest post, I can’t wait to share more with you, I’m hoping soon I can do another look book type post sharing how I like to style my band tees.

Blackmilk Clothing Immortal Beauty Haul + Outfit Styling | Life Of Dahlia

Blackmilk Clothing Immortal Beauty Haul + Outfit Styling | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Fashion Lovers, today I’m back with a fashion related post but this one has a Halloween twist. Last month Blackmilk Clothing released there Halloween collection ‘Immortal Beauty’, I picked up two garments but there were so many to choose from that looked amazing it was really hard to choose.

I’ve gone a little crazy with my editing today I was just super inspired by the theme and colours in the garments that I had to add some red lighting and use my black backdrop to give some extra spooky vibes. I love how they came out especially the all red ones they just look awesome.

This time I picked up a skirt with a really cool cathedral print with stormy red skies (Demonised), both the pieces I grabbed were ‘limited’ release so I’m glad I got to grab one before it they were gone.

There were so many amazing pieces in this release with lots of darker themes, there were some really great prints with skeleton and skull prints, but the two I picked just stood out to me.

Check out the website for a detailed look at these pieces and the others that were a part of this release, if you’re lucky you may still be able to pick something up.

I had thought about doing this post in September but I was so busy and I thought this would be perfect for my Halloween content, so I hope that you enjoy it.

The other piece I picked up was a tee style dress with ravens or crows all over it (depending on where you are from(A Murder Tee Dress), It has some red tones in it as well which was what I was also drawn to. I just love the details in both of these garments they are really unique and that certainly what I look for when purchasing clothes in general, I like something that’s going to add to my wardrobe.

I try not to buy too many new clothes very often, I usually prefer buying second hand but there are just some things you can’t necessarily find in a second-hand store, so when I do purchase new clothes I make sure its something that will be in my wardrobe for a long time to come. I’m sure I’ve said that before, but with the high turn over of fast fashion clothes I think it’s important to think before purchasing. I certainly do think a lot before purchasing from Blackmilk, I love their clothes but they are expensive so when I want to purchase something I want to know that I will get a lot of wear out of it so that I’m not wasting my money.

I’m just loving the stuff I picked up, I’ve probably worn that dress like every week since purchasing it, and that skirt is just beautiful and better yet has pockets, how many times have you worn a skirt or dress and feel like it would be better with pockets.

Did you pick up something from the Immortal Beauty collection? What did you get? Let me know in the comments.

Thank you for reading my blog post, I hope you’re enjoying my Halloween content, I can’t wait to share more with you very soon.

Until next time,

Thrifty Look Book – Styling Thrifted Fashion | Life Of Dahlia

Hey Everyone, in today’s post I wanted to share with you a little lookbook I put together, I was hoping to actually take this on location, but with the weather lately and have been unwell I wasn’t able to. Maybe when the weather gets a bit nicer I’ll get a chance to do some photos on location.

I’m hoping to do a blog post in a couple of weeks all about my set up and what I use to take my photos. So keep an eye out for that, for now, let’s get into this post.

This lookbook has a more wintery theme and shows off my unique style and how I like to style my thrifted finds. My aim was to use all second-hand items, I think there may have ended up being a couple of things in there that were purchased new many years ago but for the most part, I tried to stick to that theme.

Outfit Details:
Jacket: ASOS (thrifted)
Dress: Angie (thrifted)
Shoes: Ruby Shoes (Purchased New, a few years ago)
Accessories: Unknown

I recently posted some tips for thrifting or op-shopping as we call it here in Australia, you can check it out here if you’re interested.

Today I wanted to talk about how I like to style my outfits, I usually go for an effortless, casual style. I like to be comfortable but still look put together, if that makes sense.

Outfit Details:
Jumper: Hot Options (given)
Skirt: Unknown (thrifted)
Hat: Unknown (thrifted)
Scarf: Unknown (thrifted)
Boots: Vintage Doc Martens (thrifted)

I mostly wear jeans or leggings but I also like to wear skirts or dresses occasionally. I enjoy pairing my jeans or skirt with a band t-shirt for a casual look.

I mostly stick to neutrals like grey or black but add in a pop of colour, I particularly enjoy jewel tones because its a bit of colour but not in your face and I feel like these are probably colours that would suit most people.

Tshirt: Metallica (thrifted)
Jacket: ICE (thrifted)
Jeans: Rusty (thrifted)
Boots: Vintage Doc Martens (thrifted)

I love pairing one of my motorcycle/ biker jackets with any outfit, they are comfortable but give my outfit a bit of an edge. I have them in several different colours but my go to’s are often my cream or black ones, I feel like they go with pretty much every outfit.

I will often wear something just above my size because in winter I can easily wear a jumper (hoodie) or layers underneath without feeling suffocated or too much tightness around the arms.

Tshirt: Labyrith (thrifted)

For Shoes, I will often wear boots (like my vintage docs) or converse style shoes with most outfits, I like to wear shoes that are comfortable but still look pretty cool. I find that these styles go with most of my outfits.

Accessories are hard actually I don’t wear them often but in the cooler weather, I love wearing a beany or scarf if I’m going out it the cold. or wearing a hoodie underneath my jacket if its particularly cool and I need the extra warmth.

What are your go-to’s for the winter weather? How do you like to style your outfits? let me know below

I hope you enjoyed this post, I can’t wait to plan my next lookbook and share it with you. Coming soon like I mentioned at the beginning of this post I’ll be chatting about my photography and blogging set up really soon.

I have lots going on at the moment and I’m trying not to stress myself out too much so I’m feeling like I need a time out for self-care.

I hope to post again soon. If you have any questions about things you would like to know about like how I edit my photos, or what I use to take them, let me know in the comments.

Opshopping (thrifting) Tips | Life Of Dahlia

Top 5 Opshopping Tips (thrifting) | Life Of Dahlia

Opshopping (thrifting) Tips | Life Of Dahlia

Hey guys, I thought today it would be fun to share with you my tips for going Opshopping or Thrifting, we call it Opshopping in Australia.

Why I Started buying Second Hand Clothes

I’ve probably talked about this before but I thought I would touch on it again. I love op-shopping because not only is it great for the environment (by not wasting resources to create new clothes) but you can also find some real gems.

I’ve always had a unique style one that wasn’t easily accessible in a majority of the mainstream stores, most of the time anyway. I love being able to find unique stuff in op shops, like vintage clothing, vintage doc martens, band t-shirts and so much more.

I decided a few years ago that I was primarily going to buy my clothes second-hand especially after learning about what it takes to create something new. The True Cost is a great documentary to watch it talks all about this.

I admit that I will occasionally buy something brand new but more often than not I will check out my local opshops before purchasing something new. There are just sometimes you just can’t find what you are looking for or need second hand.

So let’s get on to my tips for Op shopping (thrifting).

My Tips For When You Are Going Op-Shopping

  1. Wear clothing that is easy to take off or put clothing over to save time when in the change room. (for females – wear leggings and a top easy to take off or put clothing over.)
  2. Look for things you need (seasonal clothing, a pair of jeans etc)
  3. Check out a size above or below, sizing is never the same, especially for women. (If its slightly to big you can always get it taken in.)
  4. Look for quality pieces (this could be designer brands or just clothing that feels well made. Something that will last a while in your closet.)
  5. This last one might freak some people out but don’t be afraid to check out the shoe department, I’ve found some awesome vintage docs on a couple of my op-shopping trips. My tip though is only to buy things that are practically brand new or good quality. I know people will tell you not to buy second-hand shoes for various reasons but you can often find some unique pieces or practically brand new boots from last season. You can always sanitize your new shoes with disinfectants, just to make sure you don’t catch anything from the previous owner.

Sneek little extra tip – if your a female don’t be afraid to check out the men’s department for band t-shirts, you know if you’re not into Justin Bieber or Twilight.

What are your favourite places to find second-hand fashion? let me know in the comments.

I hope these tips help you on your next Op-shopping or Thrifting adventure. I’m hoping to put together a lookbook very soon using mostly if not all second-hand items, so I can share with you how you can create unique outfits using second-hand clothing and accessories.

I hope you all have a lovely and stress-free day,

Blackmilk Clothing Labyrinth 2.0 Collection | Life of Dahlia

BlackMilk Clothing Labyrinth 2.0 Collection Review | Life of Dahlia

Hey everyone, I’m very excited about sharing this post with you,  if you have been reading my blog for a while you might remember that I posted about the Labyrinth Collection from Blackmilk Clothing last year, about a month ago they released a second collection called Labyrinth 2.0.

I picked up a couple of things because I’m absolutely obsessed with the movie and I’ve been wanting to get some nice leggings, this time I decided to picked up a couple of pairs of leggings, in the styles, ‘Turn Back‘ and ‘Within You‘.

Turn Back Leggings

‘Turn back‘ features a scene from the start of the movie where Jareth first takes Sarah to his world, the image is of the view over to the labyrinth with the 13-hour clock and a fairy on the back leg.

I decided to get playful with my fashion images because the artist in me just can’t do something basic, I wanted to add in subtle elements to connect to the movie, in ‘Turn Back’ I added in a clock overlay to symbolize the clock from the movie.

I absolutely love this style, the colours are stunning and the imagery is really cool, I also love the subtle elements like to 13-hour clock on the hip and the fairy on the back of the left leg. This is probably one of my favourite prints they have included in these collections.

within_you_erin_applebee_life_of_dahlia

within_you_detail_lifeofdahlia

Within You Leggings

Within You‘ features the stair scene inspired by the works of M.C Escher. This print is really cool it not only features the stairs but also has Jareth, Sarah and Toby on the print.

This has to be one of my favourite scenes from the movie and I love that now I wear it on my body.

I wanted to add a really awesome background reminiscent of the M.C Escher print but due to copyright, I decided not to, instead I went with a bubble which is inspired by the crystal balls in the movie. I downloaded the photoshop brush from Brusheezy, just in case your interested.

Blackmilk has the most amazing pieces and the quality of their products is great, I’m not big on purchasing brand new clothing because I don’t want to contribute to landfill or other impacts it can have on the environment, the only times I will purchase is when I know a piece will be in my wardrobe for years to come or its something really special.

Blackmilk for me fits into this category because they create such high-quality unique pieces I know that I will have this in my wardrobe for many years to come, so I don’t mind splurging occasionally on their pieces.

I hope you enjoyed this post, is anyone else a huge labyrinth fan like me? What’s your favourite scene from the movie?
