Shopping My Makeup Collection – Palette Of The Month – Chi Chi Cosmetics – Romantic Eyeshadow Palette | Life Of Dahlia

Hey everyone, it’s time for my first ‘Palette Of The Month’ Review, I was excited about this one when I started, but I wasn’t able to get a month worth of use out of this because I was sick for a couple of weeks, so I didn’t get to wear too much makeup during that time. However, I do think I have played with it enough to give a review.

The idea for these reviews is that I focus on using one particular palette a month, I have to use it at least two to three days a week still giving me time to play with other things if I want to. If you didn’t see my intro post you can find it here, I give credit to Kat Wilson for inspiring me to want to devel into my collection and play and give reviews with my thoughts on the palette in my collection.

My Thoughts On The Chi Chi Cosmetics ‘Romantic’ Palette

This palette is a more cool toned version of warmed toned berry trends that we have seen around for a couple of years now. It has a range of tones which is great including at least 3 transition shades and 4 deeper shades. This palette also has a nice portion of mattes to shimmers with 5 mattes, 5 shimmers, a satin and a matte with glitter (I never get why this is a thing that needs to exist but okay.)

The colour range in this palette like I said leans more on the cooler end of the spectrum with cool-toned browns, pinks, berries and champagnes.

The formula’s of these shadows are okay but not great, I felt like I was able to get a few looks I didn’t mind out of them but the mattes were probably the ones I had the most trouble with. I had to build the darker shades up quite a lot and they did blend okay but I was constantly going back and forth with blending and building up to get the desired look.

I don’t know if it was just me because for some reason lately, I’ve just been struggling with eyeshadow and winged liner, I just feel like I don’t have a lot of patients at the moment and I keep having to start over again because I’m not liking what the end result looks like.

The hero in this palette is actually the shimmers I think they are really nice and they pick up really well on a brush and stick okay on the eye without any help of a glitter glue or setting spray though I do think this helps add an extra pop. I really enjoyed using 4 out of the 5 shimmers in here particularly the ‘Deep Brown’ shade and ‘Light Champagne’ shade in the top row and the ‘Peachy Pink’ and ‘Rosy Pink’ in the bottom row. The other one I didn’t get as much chance to use as much as I would have liked, but its okay its more of a darker champagne than the lighter one.

Looks I created with this palette

What I used to create this look (as shown in the picture above):

  1. Caramel matte shade in the crease as a transition shade.
  2. Peach matte shade in the crease and outer corner.
  3. Berry matte shade crease and outer corner (I didn’t build this up I just wanted to deepen the Peach shade a little bit.)
  4. Peach shimmer on my lid from centre to inner corner.
  5. Light Champagne shimmer inner corner.
  6. I used number 2 and 4 on the lower lash line for a little bit of colour

I recreated variations of this look a couple of times, you will see another one if you scroll down, where I added a winged liner.

I found the lighter matte shades much easier to work with but I did create a couple of look’s focusing on using some of the deeper shades.

What I used to create this look (as shown in the picture above):

  1. Taupe matte shade in the crease as my transition
  2. Deep brown matte in the outer corner and crease, I winged it out a bit on the outer corner of my eye.
  3. Deep brown shimmer shade on my lid.
  4. Light champagne shade on my inner corner.
  5. I used 2 & 3 on my lower lash line.

I really loved this brown smokey eye more than I thought I would, however, I do feel like the darker mattes can be harder to work with and look a bit muddy if you’re not careful.

What I used to create this look (as shown in the picture above):

  1. Peach matte as my transition shade (though it got a bit lost in the photos.)
  2. Berry matte shade all over the lid, in the crease and outer corner.
  3. Deep brown shade to deepen up the look (It didn’t really work that great.)
  4. Berry matte with glitter just to try it out. (the glitter doesn’t show up and that’s why I get confused by these types of eyeshadow whats the point of them.)
  5. Light champagne on my inner corner.
  6. I used 2 & 3 on my lower lashline.
  7. Black gel liner to finish it off.

This look didn’t turn out that great, but it was a good representation of the darker mattes, they just don’t perform that well I found it hard to layer them to build up colour which is really disappointing. I wanted to do a gradual smokey look where I used the deeper shades along the lash line and then used the lighter shade to blend it out.

I may have just done it wrong but I wanted to see if I could layer the shades so I did do the berry shade first and then built it up which didn’t work. I also tried blending out the edges but it would just blend out and then I would have to build up what I lost again.

  6. I used number 3 lower lash line for a little bit of colour

I was actually really self-conscious about posting this, I really suck at applying mascara and the Nyx Vivid Brights liner I used just got all over my lashes. I’m also really bad at applying eyeshadow under my eyes, its an area I’m trying to improve.

These photos weren’t the best, I don’t know if It was just me or the palette I was working with but I just haven’t been liking any of the look’s I’ve been creating lately, It’s been a real struggle. This look was a slight variation on look 1 I just used the rosy pink shade and built up the berry matte a little bit for more colour.

Having deep-set and hooded eyes makes it really difficult sometimes to apply eyeshadow I often have to go further up my eyelid so that it doesn’t get lost when my eye is open. Which is why it often looks quite dramatic.

Final Thoughts

So what do I actually think about this palette, I think its okay but not great, I think the mattes leave much to be desired, the lighter shades work much better than the darker ones. The pigmentation in the darker shades is average they take a lot of work.

I think the shimmers are probably the best thing out of this palette, the formula is nice and has pretty nice pigmentation. The pink satin could be better it takes a lot to build up and its hard to pick up out of the pan.

Chi Chi is still a great affordable brand and I quite enjoy some of their products just this particular one I felt could have been better and even for the only $25 AUS I don’t know if I would personally recommend it. Will I be decluttering this out of my collection I don’t know I still enjoy the shimmers so I may dip in for those in particular but if something better comes along I may pass this on the someone else.

Have you tried this particular palette from Chi Chi Cosmetics? or What’s your favourite Chi Chi product that you have tried? let me know in the comments

Next Months Palette Of The Month Is…

The TooFaced Cosmetics – Chocolate Bon Bons Palette

I thought this would be a great palette to play with next month as you may know I’m doing Liptember so I’ll be focusing on bold lip colours, I think a more neutral palette will pair great with this. I’m aiming to try and use every colour at least once, I’ll try to use this at least three times a week over the whole of September.

It’s going to be fun to delve into one of my older palettes, I’ve actually had this since about 2016 I think and while it’s not in its prime anymore it still works great.

Thank you for checking out my first post in my ‘Palette Of The Month’ series, I hope enjoyed it and I can’t wait to get started for the next one.
