Goals for 2018| Life Of Dahlia

I’m not really a new years resolution type of person mainly because I usually epicly fail at it, but this year I do want to set myself some goals. I’m not putting huge pressure on myself to complete all of these but they are some things I would like to do.

 

  1. Finish my Master Makeup Artistry course –

    First of all I really would like to make a good effort at completing my Master Makeup Artistry course through QC Makeup Acadamy. I didn’t get much done last year because I was slowly building up my kit, which I think is in a pretty good place right now to start doing makeup on other people.

  2. Make this year more about experiences than buying things –

    As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression, I have a tendency to isolate myself from the world and therefore I do feel like I miss out on a lot. This year I would like to have more experience than buying things that clutter my space. I know there are certain situations that might be harder for me so I want to take it slow, so I don’t get to overwhelmed. I already have a few things booked in this year that I’m excited about like concerts and going to see a few musicals with my mum and sisters.

  3. Learn more –

    I love learning all sorts of new skills, number one kind of fits here but I am constantly on the search for new things to learn especially if it’s centred around art.

    My favourite sites to learn new skills from are Creativelive.com (See a list of my favourite classes from the site here) and Youtube, I’ve learnt so many things from both these sites and I plan on continuing expanding my knowledge in 2018.

  4. Live a more minimal life –

    This is a big goal for me this year and I want to expand beyond my makeup collection (project pan) and stop buying products until I’ve used them up but also other things like not buying heaps more clothes etc. I am going to do a bigger post on this and go into more detail so I won’t talk about it much here.

  5. Improve my makeup skills –

    This kind of goes with number one but I also would like to improve my skill on my own face as well as doing other peoples. I want to do more creative looks like the skull look I did for Halloween or the deer one I tried earlier last year.

  6. Save some money –

    This is a goal for a lot of people I’m sure and this is partly why I’m going on a low buy this year because I would love to save some money to finish my mini reno on my house and maybe go on a trip somewhere.

  7. Take a trip –

    This kind of goes into number two with having more experiences, I don’t get to travel much I can’t really afford it and when I have It has been with help from my Family.

    A couple of years ago I got to spend time with my sister in Queensland, she lived there at the time, it was awesome and I had some great experiences there.

    I’ve been wanting to take another trip for a while with my Mum, not sure where maybe somewhere like Melbourne it’s been a while since I’ve been so that might be fun. I also want to take a trip to Tasmania and New Zealand so I’ll need to be more frugal so that I can pay for it.

  8. Create some art –

    I didn’t really do much last year as far as my art is concerned, mainly because of illness which made me lack inspiration and motivation to create. This year I’m hoping I will be able to push myself a bit more and create some art.

  9. Focus on my wellness through daily practice of meditation and mindfulness –

    I find this helpful but I’m very slack and I know my own mind can get the better of me a lot of the time so I would like to start a process of daily meditation and try my hardest to push any negative thoughts from my mind.

  10. Practice Yoga a few times a week –

    I quite enjoy yoga but I do find it hard to get on the mat especially when my Fibromyalgia is playing up or I feel sick for other reasons. As much as I would love to do it daily and I may get there, I have to start slow because it’s been a while since I’ve done any so I don’t want to over do it. Never the less I want to make a goal to at least start doing it a few times a week.

    I love Yoga with Adriene on Youtube she is a fantastic instructor and has videos for beginners through to the more advanced.

  11. Take walks –

    I have to admit I don’t do this very often, I do prefer going for walks outside but my anxiety stops me from doing this so I usually do it on the treadmill which is a start, it’s all exercising.
    If that’s where I start I’m ok with that hopefully I can eventually get out there and go for walks outside.

  12. Get out more –

    Because of my anxiety I really don’t go out much especially by myself, I have social anxiety so it really has prevented me from doing a lot. I’m usually fine in most situations if I’m with someone else but I do often find situations like going out for a walk or the into the city or just a shopping centre as well as appointments quite overwhelming.

    So I rely on others a lot but this is a huge goal for me I would like to be more independent and go out by myself. It could just be when there is something I need from the shops or going to the movies by myself. I don’t drive so I have to take public transport which sometimes is quite overwhelming, I used to be fine with this but over the years it just becomes harder.

    I would like to challenge myself to be able to do many things to make myself more independent but I just want to start small, I’m not expecting a miracle overnight but I’m willing to try my hardest because I have to.

    I would also just generally like to spend more time outside instead of couped up indoors.

  13. Read More –

    I love reading but sometimes I just find it hard to pick up a book even though I really enjoy it. I have been enjoying purchasing Audiobooks off of Audible and I like to put it on while I’m reading. I find its a great way for me to kind of do some mindfulness or meditation because I can focus on the book and block out the world and my own thoughts for a while.

  14. Practice my Guitar –

    This is another thing I really haven’t done very much of in the last year since I bought my guitar. I love practising but I do get easily frustrated and when I have flare-ups of my Fibromyalgia I find it difficult to practice because my wrist and hands can ache quite bad. I do want to make a better effort to practice because its something I’ve always wanted to do.
